ERA 1930 - Auto Deadlocking Night Latch (60mm, Brass) Reviews

This is the perfect lock if like me you have a door with a high level vertical letter box which allows easy access to the old basic Yale lock. Anyone with a small hand could reach the inside of the old lock from outside the door!

They could still do that with the new ERA 1930 but they will not be able to gain access as the latch can be deadlocked with the key from the inside and cannot be opened without the key. I should add that we leave the key easily accessible in case of emergency.

As regards the lock itself, it was easy to fit as it comes with a template which matched the old cylinder lock. It is far more robust and looks great. Even the wife likes it! It was quickly delivered at a very good price and with an extra key cut as requested. It is not often that I can't think of any improvement to the service or the product, but in this case I simply can't. I would have no hesitation in recommending both SAFE and this ERA 1930 lock.

This is a reassuringly solid device which must be very difficult to break into. Fitting was not straightforward because in order to mark the edge of the door (for chiselling) you need to insert the lock into the fitted backplate but it won't fit properly until the door has been chiselled back.

Also, once fitted, the door had to be slammed very hard to close it. The deadlocking mechanism - which by now had scraped through the brass plating - clearly needed (more) oil. Safe.co.uk gave me permission to do this and all is now well and we are very satisfied.

difficult to fit - was replacing like for like in same situation that was fitted 8 years' ago that failed. 8 year old ERA lock failed to open owing to components becoming distorted.
