I first had a basic Master Lock key safe, the type that you have to scroll the numbers and align them. That turned out to be disastrous.

My airbnb guests were struggling to get the lockbox to open. It wasn’t clear if you aligned the numbers face on, or slightly lower or higher, and sometimes the box just wouldn’t open. Also, some of the airbnb guests would leave the correct numbers on display, so in effect the box was always open.

I soon enough realised that this was certainly not a safe solution, also, it seems that there are videos on YouTube showing you how you can crack the code, by gently rolling the numbers till you hear a different slight clicking sound.

The cavity was awkward, the keys would drop in the box in a way that made it difficult to close the box, I had to use a magnet sticker at the back of the box.

So then after extensive homework, I bought the 5441 digital masterlock from safe.co.uk

Their prices were the most competitive, and their service next to none.

This lockbox literally addressed all the issues I previously had, and improved the experience even more.

The lit up numbers are easy to press in, you wait for the sound that the box has unlocked, and you pull it open. You can set the amount of time that the box can stay open before it locks itself again.

There is an activation code unique to the lock box on the top corner of the flimsy instruction paper, and I would advise any new owner to copy that number and keep it safe, in case you lose the paper.

Once you have lost it, no one will be able to retrieve it for you.

There is also a primary code, a back up master code, and up to 5 secondary codes.

All these numbers will unlock your box.

You have to have downloaded the program to your phone, and have the phone and the box in each other’s vicinity to set these numbers initially to work with each other via bluetooth.

Once fixed in situ, you can either unlock the box by bluetooth if you’ve got the program downloaded and are very near the box, or if someone gave you any of the above numbers, you just key them in.

But where this product really excels, you can create a temporary code remotely, as long as you’re connected to the internet, so you can theoretically be in a different country, and create an access code, that you can email or text.

The temporary code will be created by the app randomly, and it is not necessary to be near the box.

This temporary code will work only for between 4 and 8 hours, you get to choose a start time.

This will work if you are sure that your guest will have access to their phone when they arrive.

It is also very handy if you want to allow tradesmen to come in in your absence.

We have found this to be the best way for moving forward, feeling secure that we have our own access codes, our guests don’t need to download the software which is complicated to use for some, and no temporary code will repeat itself.

It is of course a good idea to send another temporary code to the guest on the day they’re leaving, if you wish them to replace the key in the lockbox, if no other arrangements have been made for leaving the key.

Since we've installed these boxes 6 weeks ago, they have been a game changer. Go get it!

The Key Safe 5441 is a superbly designed and engineered product. It is solid and sturdy and of a much better construction than other similar products. The app that it uses is cleverly designed and has the ability to issue temporary access codes which can be easily revoked after use. We had ours professionally fitted by a joiner who commented that he thought it was the best key safe he had ever seen and fitted. Although the full functionality of the app takes a bit of getting used to, it can still be used as a simple safe without using the app on your phone. Highly recommended.

Excellent. Overcame the problem of being unable to see key pad at night and so far has been reliable. Find app a little difficult but this may be age related. A good buy even if a little expensive.

Excellent product very easy to set up and use. Changing the codes is simple which we do on a regular basis. Guests find it very easy to use.

This is the perfect key safe for renting out our caravan. I can log into the masterlock app which is linked to my safe only, and get a temporary code that will only last 8 hours before it changes, and then email or text that code to the customer to retrieve the keys upon arrival. I can then send another temporary code for when they are due to depart.

Using temporary codes for this purpose is great because I don't have to worry about customers helping themselves to my caravan without paying when it is unoccupied.

Being able to connect to the safe via Bluetooth is a good feature, you can set a number of permanent codes and are able to see when the safe as been accessed or attempted access and which code was used.

In my opinion this is a great safe.

The main draw back to this lock is that even one off guests and visitors need to also download the app to then access the safe at fixed times of the day or night. There isn't a way to set up your own code and allow it to only active at a certain time, which means the lock isn't as flexible as marketed. It is good that you can set up multiple users, multiple codes, plus generate a temporary code, but for the price perhaps the lock could be smarter. Overall I would still just about recommend it, but Master Lock could easily improve upon this product.

Just what I have been looking for very strong I brought this for my caravan so they can access my keys its could that you can set a date and a time for it yo open very good yo stop people entering before their allowed time very please

We have been using this key safe for 3 months now, to facilitate carer access for an elderly relative. It has performed perfectly. It is easy to set up and install. Feedback from users has been very positive. The keypad is illuminated and the buttons are easy to press - no more broken nails apparently (unlike a previous key safe!). The other great feature is that every time the safe is accessed by bluetooth, all the previous access times are logged in the app; this has proved useful for keeping track on access. Overall, this is an excellent product that I would recommend.

Works well for our Airbnb, though the the box has a small capacity. Seems very secure, no problems so far.

This lock is easy to install and set up. We have had no issues with it and it has helped us with not meeting people to hand over keys

We checked out various options but then had a recommendation for this one. Customer service and delivery were brilliant. Set up was easy. Capacity a bit limited if you want to put a large keyring on the key so we’ve put a small one on 🙃

This is working perfectly for my holiday rental property, I love the fact that each guest gets a unique code. Really good design and feel it is really secure.

The only thing I would say is that I don’t seem to be able to use the app to generate a new code, I have to do that on the website login. It might just be me, but is a bit of a pain going into the website each time.

Other than that I would highly recommend.

Wow! I have been waiting for a robust and secure key safe that can be managed remotely for some time now, this does what it says on the packet!

Although it took some time to upgrade the lock so that it could be used on Masterlock Enterprise, the wait was well worth it. I now have complete control of my remote buildings, now know who has accessed and when, and can provide someone with access when calling unannounced.

The software interface is easy to use, the lock is easier - but I would like to see it slightly larger for those once in a while larger bunches of keys.

We love the, we now have 6 across our properties. They are secure, easy to install and set up. The best (and affordable) solution on the market - in my opinion.

The battery life (something I was concerned about) is brilliant and I don't think I've had to change one yet! And considering our level of use, that is quite amazing.

Possibly the best feature is the distant to open in the App - no need to remember multiple override access codes!

I wish the storage was fractionally bigger, but other than that it is great.

Wish there was WIFI enabled version, I would buy that in a heartbeat!

Having used other key safes with push buttons or digit wheels, this is the best by far. Once you get used to how to open it and how to do so remotely, you will realise it’s the one you have been waiting for.

One useful feature is that it also lights up so you can see what you are doing in the dark which other key safes not have.

I’m always locking myself out as we have a slam shut front door so this comes in handy for everyone, not just visitors. I have recommended to all my neighbours as they have experienced the same problem.

Initially was not sure if the key lock was overpriced ,but having fitted and used for some months now , can only praise its quality and ease of use .

Set up was very simple and all of its features all work as advertised .

Does the job

This has to be one of the best on the market. Forget the cheapy thumb wheel thingys, which you only have breath on and they would open. Those units would probably void your house insurance. The ability to have several static codes and also issue time sensitive temporary codes, beat the cheapies hands down. The Bluetooth link enables you to see how the unit is being used, who has used it and when. It will open when any authorised user opens the associated app, within a few meters. Very robust unit would probably take a lot of effort to break it open.

My first thoughts were, 'its a bit expensive'...... As I read through the description, it dawned on me that you do get what you pay for (usually).

I have very poor mobility due to Polio as a child and I'm a bit anal regarding security. My wife passed away recently, which opened up the can of worms regarding living alone.

I decided on a key safe for my children to gain access if necessary, as well as the emergency services. What I didn't want was to give the passcode to somebody, which I feel would have left me vulnerable to misuse.

My internet accessible key safe was the answer to all my concerns. I have allocated passcodes to my family and the people who would respond if I fall over and require some help. I can limit the time slots for people to access the safe, after which a new access code is required or I can allow access remotely. Once a code has been used for access, I can immediately allocate a new code, which maintains my need for security! This can all be done remotely using my phone, which removes the necessity for me to physically programme the safe.

It's manufacture is really high quality, it feels and looks substantial and the battery lasts at least a year. The battery is easily replaced and there is provision to temporarily power it up with a battery via two contact points underneath the body if you haven't been able to change the battery in time.

The company's customer service is also excellent. I contacted them to enquire about various aspects of the safe, and I was greeted warmly and reassured where necessary.

I would not hesitate to buy from them again and would highly recommend considering their products seriously. I would just like to say a big thank you to all the staff for the help and advice given to me throughout my contact with them

A great product. Well made, easy to use and has given us freedom for guests to let themselves in whilst us knowing that the codes can be changed as often as we like. The buttons have to be pressed directly in the middle though - sometimes several attempts have to be made before entry is gained -this then send me a tamper alert, which is good if it is a genuine tamper. Also the storage is slightly on the small side - you can only get really 2 keys in with small key rings on. But all in all, a very good product. Highly recommended.

At last i have found a safe ( the Master lock 5441 ) it does not confuse people like other makes did so we do not get the safe left open now or the combination left on show . The quality of construction is good and it has a quality feel to it . The night drivers like it because lights up in the dark as soon as you touch it. Putting the keys back in is easy because of its large capacity. We have not got too using its blue tooth capability yet as we do not have the need at this time . This is the product i have been looking for for years .

Great product, perfect for my Airbnb apartments. Easy to set up and install. Plenty of room in the safe for apartment keys. Light up display makes it easy for guests to access the safe at night. Easy to issue access to cleaner via app. Definitely worth the investment in my view.

BUT....

You really need to put together a short, simple guide on YouTube showing the guest exactly what they need to do. Some people find it very confusing (especially when the verification code take hours to come through!). It would be so good to say here's your invite and here's a link that shows you what to do !!

Great product, well built and far easier to use than the mechanical push button alternative. Great to be able to email people a link to be able to access the keys too.

Good product let down by poor software, difficult to send codes due to a lack of response from the server end via email. Works better using what's app.

Smart design, ample storage and the ability to use without a code via your mobile is great. just the set up with the software which needs improving.

I have the smart safe for my holiday let. Very impressed so far with all aspects. It's great to be able to set up different codes in advance of their use easily, also to see when people have come and gone.

On the face of it, this is a very well-built product. However, I am a little concerned that its security capability could be compromised - according to a YouTube review of this product, the plastic covering on the front panel can be easily cut away to reveal 2 cross-head screws which hold the locking pins. It seems that once exposed, the screws can be easily undone, thus facilitating the easy opening of the unit's door :-( I haven't validated this but it is of some concern to me. Other than that, it is very easy to use and far superior to most other similar mechanical key safes. The ability to assign a number of access codes is also a useful facility.

I bought it for managing my holiday let business. My previous keysafe had to have the code changed manually. This one can generate a random code for every guest which times out after a few hours. I can text the code to the guest to start for Entry time and expire a few hours later. I can then generate a new randomd code for Exit day a few hours in advance of alloted Exit time which expires at agreed exit time.

Once I had the right app, I have never looked back. The customer service were as helpful as they could be. There is a business and residential app. I hadn't been aware of this and had installed the wrong one.

Being able to send a temporary code to workmen and guests while I work away gives great peace of mind.Worth every penny.

We had teething problems during commissioning

I’m really impressed with this safe; my mum has rheumatoid arthritis and cannot operate anything that doesn’t have buttons on so she is very pleased with how clear and straightforward the buttons are. I take care of managing the App and mum loves the simplicity of operation, so it’s a great buy all round.

Very good quite expensive but you get what you pay for.Could be a little bigger. Quality excellent.

Just what I needed, easy to set up and use and gives me great control, allowing me to grant/deny access from home on a one-off or permanent basis and to monitor who has accessed the room and when.

The only, minor, issue is the limited space, keys fit but need careful placement.

I did a lot of research before purchasing a key box. Ultimately there is no perfect product out there but this one comes close. It is secure and robust and enables a good degree of control over who has access to your keys. The latest app update has made things simpler and you can easily assign codes, up to 8 digit if required, to different people. Giving people access via the app is still a bit of a faff for them as they have to download the app and register for an account - fine if they are tech savvy but not so good for elderly relatives or those that struggle with smartphones. Would I buy one again? Yes. Is there likely to be a better product on the market in 12 months times? Probably.

I purchased the smart safe after looking at other items at a lower cost. This is the only one I could find that actually had a secure PIN - cheaper ones had discs and/or the 4 number pin could be used in any order which is not really secure enough.

The first thing I noted on the Smart Safe was the weight and feeling of quality when the door was opened and closed. It feels secure, and is a good size to be discreet yet easy to see. The correct code results in an audible click and the door can be opened. When shutting it feels solid and secure.

I’m happy to leave my front door key locked inside it attached to the wall.

It’s been on the wall through this awful winter and storms and is absolutely fine.

Very Good.

This is an excellent product. Easy to use and good quality product. The security aspect is key in our business and we feel secure in the knowledge that the keys are locked away and only accessible by certain members of staff. Access via mobile is easy. When the management is away from the business it is easy to access the safe by the mobile app and give access to the keys to members of staff that require them. I would recommend this product to anyone with key safety in mind. Good all round item.

One point that would make it perfect is that the box could be a little more generous with space for the keys, or have some way of hooking keys to the back.

So good I’m thinking of getting a second. The app that goes with the lock is really easy and quick to you. It’s easy to give people temporary access and I can see who was the last person to take the key out if it goes missing. The ability to just punch in a code is also good if people aren’t comfortable with using the app.

After a guest reported breaking a fingernail on a traditional wheel type of combination lockbox, as a host we felt we had to prevent this happening in future. I searched for an alternative and found the 5441 lockbox.

Using this lockbox also means each guest has a unique code for the lockbox, but as a first impression to a guest, it does the job, even to the point where it has come up in some of our guest reviews.

Totally recommend this lockbox and the app to set the guests codes, it’s also great for the cleaners to be able to open it with their phone easily.

Absolutely love this key safe. I can confidently run my serviced accommodation business from anywhere in the world knowing that i can control the locks remotely through my phone.

Good functionality and works well. Could benefit from a hook or better internal storage to hold keys. You just shove them in and close behind them hoping they don't fall out. But a good product and solution.
