As far as I can recall, this is the only lock that I have ever bought personally. I was extremely pleased with my purchase, which, after ordering, arrived quickly and safely in a good quality package. I chose Union because of its reputation for quality. It has now been installed in my Edwardian timber door with a set of glass door handles, handmade by Liam Carey of Liskeard. He makes the best handles in the world and this lock suits them very well. The mechanism is silent, precise and accurate. I hope that it lasts as long as I do.

I needed this particular lock because, in our Edwardian house we have brass doorknobs rather than lever handles on the internal doors, and the lock fitted to our bedroom by previous owners left the knob so close to the frame that we kept scraping our knuckles! This one had a long enough distance between the forend and the centre of the square hole for the knob spindle to overcome that problem. It was also useful to be able to reverse the direction of the latch to cope with the way our door opens.

The mechanism is beautifully smooth, and the strike plate was particularly good quality in sold brass.
