This was to replace the exact same item that was bought and fitted about 10yrs ago... maybe a bit longer. Interesting to see the cost reduction measures that have been taken in the meantime. Brass internals that were solid are now skeletons and the latching plate has been reduced in thickness and ribs designed in to bulk out to the same thickness. The disappointing thing is that the old inside handle was solid and nicely shaped for the hand. This new one is a concave shell to look the same but is hollowed out to save material and is nowhere near as nice to use. I would have willingly paid £5 more for the better handle. However it does the job and is still a good item.

The Yale PBS1 Deadlock I purchased was faulty and I spent about 3 hours trying to resolve it. Having gone beyond the point of no return, with the old lock off and new holes drilled for the new lock, I ended up 'fixing' the unit myself.

Quality lock with many fixing points to keep everything securely in place. Only dislike is the small piece of black plastic on the otherwise brass finish which makes it look more modern than it needs to. Had it professionally installed because it required more modifications to our Victorian era door than I was happy to do myself. Latch mechanism snagged slightly when using the handle. Support sent replacement after diagnosing fault over the phone. Same problem that was eventually rectified with a lot more lubrication to get latch to move smoothly. Very happy with end result.

Beautiful piece of kit, easy to look at, clean, smart and well finished. Not the easiest thing in the world to fit but that was partly due to an 80 year old front door with an old Yale fitted. Now we can feel safe and sound, knowing you can't get in using a credit card or similar.

A reasonably robust lock which looks and feels well put together whilst being easy to use. Fitting requires drilling of extra holes in the door when replacing a conventional Yale lock. The instructions advise these should be drilled from the rear of the door using their template. This is a mistake as small errors then need extra fettling to make the keyplate and lock align and fit correctly.

The lock does not slide well requiring a huge slam of the door. Perhaps a bit of fiddling about with the fitting will ease. But disappointing.

This is a good looking lock with a neat outer pull, All of which feels sturdy, certainly better than the old lock which was average to say the least. The door manufacturers have fitted the lock, along with the frame, though they did say it was relatively straight forward. Seems easy to use once we have got the hang of things, no problem with it so far. The customer service people were friendly and helpful with my query with regards to the suitability of locks for my door design. The delivery was very fast and I was kept well informed throughout the process. Thank you

A good product eventually. Installed ok, but would not shut reliably. After much investigation we found that the solution was graphite lubricant, obtained from Amazon. This made a huge difference. Either the lock as supplied is not sufficiently lubricated, or else some lubricant should be supplied. The difference before and after lubrication is huge.

This is the third Yale PBS1 that I've bought over the last 15 years, all fitted to different doors, and all still in service. The instructions provided are clear and comprehensive so the little bit of fiddliness in fine tuning the fit to work perfectly was probably down to my lack of skill.
The build quality is still very good despite the handle being hollowed out at the rear. Just a good solid product.

This was a direct replacement for a 35 year old door lock of exactly the same size and style.
The cost-cutters have been at work. The main indoor handle is now not solid brass but still functions OK. However, it does not feel so good.
The main problem is getting the key into the lock, inside or outside. The old lock never had such problems. With the new one, one has to fiddle and twiddle until the key goes in.
All in all not very good. The saving grace was that it fitted in the old position on the door with no difficulties. The striking plate had changed though, so we left the old old in position.

A good solid, and well-engineered lock. Delivered in good time. The lady using it has arthritic hands and finds it difficult to turn the key but it does everything she wants of it so I can't complain. I adjusted the fitting so it was a bit lose which helped. The instructions for fitting are precise and good stepwise instructions.

This is a terrible lock. I bought it as a replacement for an identical Yale night latch that had finally worn out after years of good service. By comparison, the build quality and use of this fitting are both poor; the cylinder front plate shows scratches from first use, it sits loose behind the collar. The hand turn is hollowed and is uncomfortable to use.
We replaced it with another brand after 2 weeks. I would not recommend this lock if Yale sold it for £5.

The build quality is much better than cheaper products.Gives confidence that it’s fit for purpose.I would recommend as a good replacement should one be needed. Also conforms to the correct regulations. The ease of use is good too along with the fact it has a nice look to it making it worth while purchase.

Well built lock with more than enough security required for the job.
The website was easy to navigate with great filters to find the lock I needed quickly without fuss with competitive pricing thrown in too, I was confident I’d gone to the right place.
The delivery was swift and efficient, all in all a great service .

The night latch arrived when expected, was a good price and was easy to fit, replacing an older night latch. A little chiselling was required to ensure a perfect fit.
I have one small gripe. The "tongue" of the latch is made very square. So much so that we can only close the door either by turning the key or by really slamming the door. If it were slightly rounded, I believe it would be much easier to close. Perhaps it will round off with time, but I'm not optimistic.

this is a great lock except for the handle which hollows in at the back. a solid handle would suit my arthritic hands. other than that, works perfectly, looks great and am very pleased with it. love the fact that it can be more secured by locking the key with the added protection. Looks great and is a solid piece of security

Standard solid yale lock - looks great, but very disappointed with cheap-feeling quality of inside latchl, used to open door from inside. This is now hollowed out, rather than solid as the old ones were. Feels rough and not pleasant to use. Feels like saving money and it shows unfortunately.

I must say from the outset that my skills are of an electrical bent so my opinions of this are from that perspective.
I found the instructions a little difficult to follow as they were of the usual picture gram variety, leaving plenty of room for interpretation.
The actual lock itself was more chunky than I was expecting but that does infer quality construction.
Overall I am very happy with the finished installation and is functioning perfectly.

Basically this is a standard Yale night latch. My version was finished in brass effect.
The lock is value for money and the service from Safe was unbeatable. Ordered one day and delivered by courier on Saturday - the extra service costs a few extra pounds.
The build quality of this lock is reasonable but it is in no way as well made as the old Yale PBS1. In particular the solid brass handle is now much thinner; the manufacturer has reduced the thickness of the handle so that the back is less easy to hold. I am advised that the manufacture of this lock is no longer made by the old British company - that having been sold to an international lock company.
That all said the lock functions as it should - I doubt it will last over 30 years as did the old one.
I'm very disappointed by this product. It is an absolute nightmare to fit, with terrible and incorrect instructions (for example the little balls that you are supposed to put in front of the screws and that can't possibly fit snug - what are they for?). The fact that it only comes with one set of screws at maximum length is really irritating at this price - unless you have a really thick door leaf of over 50mm or so ,all screws need to be hand-cut to fit your door! Why on earth can't they supply long, medium and short screws and ask for 5 quid more? Cutting the screws to size is a right nightmare and I also injured my finger when doing this. It took me nearly 4hrs to fit the lock!! The ease of use is good from the inside except for the hold-open button which doesn't release in the normal way, but the (unfortunately fixed) pull on the outside is so close to the door that a male finger doesn't fit beneath - these pulls are normally bent forwards for a reason. The shiny finish looks cheap and I really hope the sheen disappears soon (who wants a shiny door handle on an old house, they should offer in antique brass). Finally, the hold open button and it's massive surround is made of black and red plastic. Seriously, on a lock of that price? Even on a cheap Yale it is made of brass. I cannot really comment on security. To be honest, I would buy a lower security lock in the future - easier to fit and prettier.

This was to replace an earlier model Yale lock. It works in a very similar way and is an ok product, but I note that it has been cheapened by reducing the metal on the handle which makes it very uncomfortable to operate. Not what I expect from a leading brand. Disappointing really…

Excellant product but handle not as solid as they use to be. My fitter had a struggle fitting it but more the door rather than the product. Overall a very useful and strong lock and would always recommend there use.
It was delivered quickly and efficiently and I can highly recommend the company. Thank you
