Arlo by Netgear. A brilliant solution to a wirefree internal and outdoor camera system.

I was really pleased with the fast setup of the Arlo hub and camera, pairing the camera to the hub was rapid. I have mounted my Arlo camera to the outside of my home using a third party, but more secure mount than the basic magnetic mounts you receive with the Arlo system. Personally the magnetic mounts are a brilliant idea and solution if you're moutning the cameras indoor.

The Arlo app for Android. The app is very controversial and you will see many reviews on the play store complaining about the app because truthfully Netgear keep on rolling out updates which seem to be making the Arlo app function incorrectly. For example, they recently released Arlo Smart, a subscription based service per camera which makes the Arlo notifications that bit more smarter - instead of Motion Detected, you get "Person Detected" or "Vehicle Detected" or "Animal Detected". This feature is great and i must say it works as it should. However since i change my arlo account from basic to Smart, the notifications come through very late, sometimes an hour later, and i get multiple notifications for the same motion detection. Netgear introduced Detection Zones, which lets you select parts of the surveillance area you want to be notified. This for me was something i got excited about because there is a small portion that my camera captures that I dont want it to - my neighbors drive. They regularly set off alerts on my camera and to me i feel it is a waste of my Arlo power consumption and an unnecessary alert. Sadly, Detection Zones did not work no matter how much I tried, i would set the Zones (up to 3 allowed) and they wouldnt do anything, infact id go to the app moments later and the zones wouldnt show up. So i try again and when i hit save im told maximum zones reached - to which the original zones show up. Great? Nope, i test out the zones and i receive no notifications at all in any of the zones - infact keeping the detection zones on (even though they dont work) actually drained about 20% of my batteries over 4 hours which is a lot considering my camera uses 1% every 2 days normally. Anyways i've gone back to basic free subscription and notifications happen accurately and instant.

Overall i do love the Arlo system, however Netgear need to pay more attention to the app. They keep on changing things that dont need changing.

I certainly would recommend the Arlo system to family and friends, and I intend to get another one in the near future. Please keep in mind the batteries are quite expensive but do last quite a long time. The Arlo system uses less power if you do not constantly use the live view feature.

The Arlo system has certainly added a sense of extra security to my home!

Right now i'd recommend you sticking with the basic subscription until Netgear have ironed out the issues theyre facing with the new features.

:)

Very good security camera. Easy to setup etc. Battery life seems good. Only complaint is that it takes quite avfew seconds to start recording after detection. Hence you can miss things.

Bought the product as it is truly wireless. That's it's main advantage. Very easily set up. Fine tuning takes a while but once you realise that its better to cross the line of sight at 90 degrees the better. Facing straight on to your proposed path or subject work less efficiently.

Night views are extremely good quality but the tiniest of things can set it off, such as spiders birds and flies. Be careful where to site it.

It as an anomaly that keeps setting the recording off ie. Like a flash of light. It seems to occur with this system particularly. No-one appears to be able to fathom It, I suspect it could be cleared by an Arlo upgrade?

This issue would not put me off buying the system as all the other benefits outweigh it.

In conclusion, a good quality system at a reasonable cost.
