I bought the CL290 back to back to fit to both sides of my garden gate. I have found it really difficult to fit satisfactorily. The instruction on the length to cut the connecting bolts was incorrect. I was careful to cut the length to suit the door as instructed only to find that it was then too short to reach the lock on the other side of the door. I had to phone for replacement bolts which were quickly supplied. The instruction is to use pliers to cut the bolts but the metal is so hard that I could only break them using my metal vice. Maybe industrial pliers would have worked.

Having fitted the locks as instructed it was still very stiff to turn the knobs to open. On checking I found that when the lock was operated a wheel emerged from the bottom edge which was catching on the wood inside the door frame. I enlarged the hole more than once before the lock turned more smoothly. Even now, though, the latch does not completely withdraw on opening.

The ‘C’ button that has to be pressed on opening is harder to depress than the other buttons.

Overall, this is a difficult and very fiddly product to fit. I will not be buying any more of these locks as I originally planned to fit to two more doors. I must, though, say that the gentlemen I phoned for technical advice was very pleasant and helpful.

This is an outdoor lock with no grip at all, so it is rather difficult to use when it's raining, hence ease of use rating. The code is easy to input.

It's had all sort of problems with cold weather and refused to work all together on one side for several weeks this winter, hence the low build quality. Occasionally, the latch sticks in, so you need to make sure it has locked up again. Yet it is very good looking and solidly fitted.

Fitting requires two people and isn't too bad. The instructions are clear.

It's definitely made the gate very safe.

Over all, it is a pricey item and had I written this review before winter I would have given it 5 stars almost all around. But the problems that come with the cold weather are very inconvenient as it is fitted to the main aces to our property. So it isn't very good value for money.
