If the hub loses power will the alarm still sound if any of the sensors are triggered? or is the hub an integral part of the system? Seems to me that a savvy burglar could just unplug it from the mains if so.
Chris Hague, Huddersfield
The alarm would only activate once a component has been triggered. The alarm has a rechargeable battery which would activate when any mains power is lost.
As the ERA external siren is solar powered, hence stores the power to a rechargeable battery, how long would the alarm sound for until the batteries drains?
Jack, Birmingham
As the Siren is solar powered, as long as it has access to daylight the battery would constantly charge and store enough energy in one days charge to power it for a whole week. The estimated battery life would be 3-5 years in total.
I read that some of the Yale systems are activated when they lose connection to wifi and the alarm goes off. Does this system also sound/activate when it loses wifi connection?
Richard Riley, Leeds
Yes, both systems have this mode just as an anti tamper mechanism. However the ERA Homeguard has a sim card option, so if the WiFi connections drops, you would still be notified.
Does the hub need to be wired either to a phone line or the router or can it be situated in a different room of the house because it's using WiFi and a sim card sender?
Ian fullagar, Stafford
The HomeGuard series is wireless, because of the Wi-Fi connectivity, and only needs to be plugged into a mains power socket.
If the wifi drops and the alarm is activated as part of the anti-tamper feature in the Yale and the ERA, how would you stop the alarm ringing? You won't be able to do this through the app due to the wifi - so can you send a text to reset the alarm?
S Dhillon
Unless the alarm has a sim card facility, for example the ERA HomeGuard Smart Alarm Pro - Junior Kit, you would not be contacted without a WiFi connection. The Sim card feature can also be used to reset the alarm at any time.
You say you can use a PAY/GO sim how much typically per month is needed to be added and how do you know when credit has run out?
Kerry Eames, Portsmouth
The alarm system would contact you via WiFi, however if your internet connectivity experienced problems the Sim card would only be used in emergency's to contact you so you do not need to top it up per month. You can always check the balance of your sim card by calling your provider.
Hi, I know that the era homeguard alarm requires a 2g sim card. I am having difficulty finding a 2g sim card. Please can you recommend a specific sim card that will be compatible? Alex
Alex , Birmingham
Any standard sized SIM would be suitable as most networks function using 2G, 3G or 4G. The only exception is Three network as they do not operate lower than 3G.
Can the door sensors be set to initiate a beep from the control panel or Wireless Key fob reader when the alarm isn't armed? I think it's called a chime facility.
Alan, Plymouth
Unfortunately this system does not have a chime feature.
Could I add a 2nd Keypad and 2nd solar powered alarm box to the ERA Homeguard Smart alarm pro? If I purchased the alarm system I'd like a secondary rear exit and sounding alarm box at the rear of my property.
Craig Mudd, Mansfield
You can connect up to 50 components to the HomeGaurd alarms and you can add an additional solar powered siren and keypad if required.
Can the IP camera be configured such that it only detects movement when the system is armed? I believe this camera is also a standalone device which would typically send a notification whenever it sees any movement, but for obvious reasons I'd only want notifications when the alarm is armed.
Andrew Beaumont, London
The IP camera will send you notifications when motion is detected and will start to record video footage. Unfortunately you cannot set this to only work when the alarm is armed.
Several questions have been asked about SIM card and mobile compatibility with the ERA alarms. None of your replies makes mention of the several types of M2M SIM cards available intended specifically for alarms and other IOT devices. Are the dedicated M2M SIM cards compatible and do you recommend any particular provider?
David, Swadlincote
The ERA models are unsuitable for roaming Sim Cards (M2M), a standard conventional UK sim (excluding the network three) would give you the best results.
The property I want to protect does not have WiFi. Can I just run this using a SIM? If so what would be the monthly GB usage?
Jeff Gill, Brightlingsea
You can run this system just using a sim. You could also consider the ERA miGuard G5 Smart GSM Telecoms Alarm as it is made for sim usage. The monthly usage would be dependent on the notifications you set, I'd recommend using a pay as you go sim for a few months to determine usage.
Do you need a sim to get notifications or will they be delivered to the app in the event of a trigger?
Roger Trevena, Welling
This system does not require a sim card as a primary method of notification as this can be done using the WiFi. In the event of the system losing a WiFi connection the sim card will act as a back up and send you a notification to your smartphone.
What is the difference between this range and the
ERA Garrison - Wireless SmartPhone Alarm PLUS?
Chris, Sutton Coldfield
The ERA Garrison includes GSM alerts only and needs a sim card to send any notification. The ERA Homeguard includes be sim card slot and is WiFi enabled.
Can you tell me if the door sensors are compatible with doors and frames that are not at the same level for example UPVC doors? If not do you sell an adaptor to raise the level.
Jon Hodgson, Flitwick
There is no adaptor available to allow the affixing of the Door/Window contacts at different levels. Though the contacts do not have to be touching you may need to customise one element of the sensor to ensure it is at the same level.
Can the alarm be used without internet? I'm currently refurbishing a property so there won't be internet there for a while.
Morgan Ashton, Rct
This system can be used with a sim card which will send you text alerts once the alarm is triggered. This requires a classic sim card suitable for all phone networks excluding the 3 network.
Would the alarm still work if the Wi-Fi and power is lost?
Simon, Newcastle
The alarm would still siren as it features an internal battery and also option for a sim card, so you can even be contacted without any internet connectivity.
Do you provide the installation service for Era home guard?
Pasquale , London
Installation is currently not available on the ERA Alarm Systems. It can be selected at the point of order with the Yale Alarms such as the Yale Smart Home Alarm & View Kit - SR-330.
I have 2 cats. So my question is, I'm afraid that even with the pet friendly PIR that it will still pick them up if/when they jump up on the windowsill, sofa or table etc and set the siren off. Does your pir work of height or does it also compensate with weight/heat detection? Thanks.
Paul HUGHES, Cwmcarn, Newport
The PIR's will work off weight. Any pet under 25kg will not set the sensors off.
If the alarm is armed, and the wi-fi drops out, will the bell sound as a result of the wi-fi dropping off or would it stay armed and quiet (until it is disturbed)? I'm worried that disturbance in the wifi signal could result in false alarms that we wouldn't know about or be able to deal with when away from home.
Clair O'Donnell, Shropshire
A loss or drop in Wifi will not activate the alarm, the system will still function without an internet connection. However without the internet you would not receive a notification that the alarm has been activated.
What is the advantage of a rfid tag in an alarm system (ERA) over the wireless remote? For a small system/property, do I need it? Do they serve a separate function?
Dan Smith, Erdington
The purpose of the RFID tags are to allow easy de-activation of the alarm. They are extremely light weight and can fit on to your key ring. The remote controls are larger in size which you may not want to carry around with you.
1. Does the camera come with any brackets or screws to fix inside the home?
2. How long does the Alarm sound for, i.e. duration.
J.A, Forest Gate
The camera is supplied with fixings as it is designed to be free standing or ceiling mounted. You can adjust time period that the alarm will sound for from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.
As this is compatible with LightWave is it possible to arm/disarm the alarm with Alexa voice service if it has the lightwave skill installed?
Carl Law, York
The alarm cannot be Armed/Disarmed via Alexa voice control at the moment, however this connectivity is currently being applied to the system and will be available in 2018.
Can the PIR sensors be powered by rechargeable batteries?
Andy Clayton, Nottingham
The manufacturer recommends that standard non-rechargeable batteries are used with all alarm accessories.
Jonathan P
Was this helpful?
I am looking at buying this system. Can you tell me if the camera can be mounted externally? Also can you setup a movement sensor that takes pictures when activated?
Jon Hodgson, Flitwick
Unfortunately the camera is not weather resistant and is only suited for internal use. The camera can be set up to record motion and will send alerts to your smartphone when motion is detected.
So I can be 100% clear, if the wifi service drops out due to a problem with the provider the alarm will sound?
In this case, one would have to physically get to the house to disable the alarm right?
Sam, London
The alarm system will still function as an alarm with out an active internet connection, however you would not receive a notification and it could not be controlled via the app remotely until the connection was restored. You would have to be on site with the alarm to de-activate it.
