As the ERA external siren is solar powered, hence stores the power to a rechargeable battery, how long would the alarm sound for until the batteries drains?
Jack, Birmingham
As the Siren is solar powered, as long as it has access to daylight the battery would constantly charge and store enough energy in one days charge to power it for a whole week. The estimated battery life would be 3-5 years in total.
I read that some of the Yale systems are activated when they lose connection to wifi and the alarm goes off. Does this system also sound/activate when it loses wifi connection?
Richard Riley, Leeds
Yes, both systems have this mode just as an anti tamper mechanism. However the ERA Homeguard has a sim card option, so if the WiFi connections drops, you would still be notified.
Does the hub need to be wired either to a phone line or the router or can it be situated in a different room of the house because it's using WiFi and a sim card sender?
Ian fullagar, Stafford
The HomeGuard series is wireless, because of the Wi-Fi connectivity, and only needs to be plugged into a mains power socket.
If the hub loses power will the alarm still sound if any of the sensors are triggered? or is the hub an integral part of the system? Seems to me that a savvy burglar could just unplug it from the mains if so.
Chris Hague, Huddersfield
The alarm would only activate once a component has been triggered. The alarm has a rechargeable battery which would activate when any mains power is lost.
If the wifi drops and the alarm is activated as part of the anti-tamper feature in the Yale and the ERA, how would you stop the alarm ringing? You won't be able to do this through the app due to the wifi - so can you send a text to reset the alarm?
S Dhillon
Unless the alarm has a sim card facility, for example the ERA HomeGuard Smart Alarm Pro - Junior Kit, you would not be contacted without a WiFi connection. The Sim card feature can also be used to reset the alarm at any time.
You say you can use a PAY/GO sim how much typically per month is needed to be added and how do you know when credit has run out?
Kerry Eames, Portsmouth
The alarm system would contact you via WiFi, however if your internet connectivity experienced problems the Sim card would only be used in emergency's to contact you so you do not need to top it up per month. You can always check the balance of your sim card by calling your provider.
Hi, I know that the era homeguard alarm requires a 2g sim card. I am having difficulty finding a 2g sim card. Please can you recommend a specific sim card that will be compatible? Alex
Alex , Birmingham
Any standard sized SIM would be suitable as most networks function using 2G, 3G or 4G. The only exception is Three network as they do not operate lower than 3G.
Can the door sensors be set to initiate a beep from the control panel or Wireless Key fob reader when the alarm isn't armed? I think it's called a chime facility.
Alan, Plymouth
Unfortunately this system does not have a chime feature.
In regards to the ERA Homeguard system. If I purchased the premium kit rather than superior (i.e. keyfobs but no wireless keypad/RFID), how would I disarm the alarm in the event that my phone and Key Fob were stolen but the alarm was tripped?
Ted, MK
The only option to disarm the alarm would be via the key fobs or your mobile phone. Adding the ERA Wireless Touch RFID Keypad accessory would ensure that in the unlikely event of losing both the key fob and mobile device that you can disarm the alarm system.
Could I add a 2nd Keypad and 2nd solar powered alarm box to the ERA Homeguard Smart alarm pro? If I purchased the alarm system I'd like a secondary rear exit and sounding alarm box at the rear of my property.
Craig Mudd, Mansfield
You can connect up to 50 components to the HomeGaurd alarms and you can add an additional solar powered siren and keypad if required.
Several questions have been asked about SIM card and mobile compatibility with the ERA alarms. None of your replies makes mention of the several types of M2M SIM cards available intended specifically for alarms and other IOT devices. Are the dedicated M2M SIM cards compatible and do you recommend any particular provider?
David, Swadlincote
The ERA models are unsuitable for roaming Sim Cards (M2M), a standard conventional UK sim (excluding the network three) would give you the best results.
In the event of the IP Camera being triggered where/how are images stored ? Is there an SD card on board and if so what is the capacity / duration that is possible to be stored/retrieved ?
Sean Sharkey, Halifax
The memory can be expanded via a MicroSD Card (Max 32GB), please note this has to be purchased separately.
Can this alarm arm and disarm itself based on the geolocation of my phone?
Terry, Romford
This system cannot automatically arm based on location. You would need to manually arm or disarm the system using the hub an accessory or smartphone app.
Can you please explain the difference in performance between the ERA 433Hz vs. 868Hz system used by Yale system?
Peter, Bordon
In terms of frequency, the higher the frequency the shorter the wavelength. The ERA systems (433Hz) components have a 80 meter wireless range from the hub and the Yale (868Hz) have 30 meter range.
What is the difference between this range and the
ERA Garrison - Wireless SmartPhone Alarm PLUS?
Chris, Sutton Coldfield
The ERA Garrison includes GSM alerts only and needs a sim card to send any notification. The ERA Homeguard includes be sim card slot and is WiFi enabled.
Can the alarm be used without internet? I'm currently refurbishing a property so there won't be internet there for a while.
Morgan Ashton, Rct
This system can be used with a sim card which will send you text alerts once the alarm is triggered. This requires a classic sim card suitable for all phone networks excluding the 3 network.
Would the alarm still work if the Wi-Fi and power is lost?
Simon, Newcastle
The alarm would still siren as it features an internal battery and also option for a sim card, so you can even be contacted without any internet connectivity.
My WiFi is sometimes unreliable meaning I have to reset it quite a lot. Does this mean the alarm will sound every time I lose WiFi? And if so can you recommend a system that will NOT sound if WiFi is down?
Adam, Bristol
The alarm siren would not be activated if the Wi-Fi goes down. The purpose of the broadband connection is to provide you with notifications to your smartphone when the alarm is triggered.
If setting the system remotely via phone (internet) is it possible to see the status of the system eg if a door switch is open or closed before setting to alarm mode.
Graham, Bristol
The alarm system status should be visible on the app when arming or disarming the alarm.
I have sensors upstairs and down but I don't want the alarm going off at night. Can this system can be set up as 2 zones?
Martin springthorpe , Sheffield
This system can be set up as 2 zones. All the sensors within a zone have to be active or in-active you cannot isolate individual sensors with in the zones.
Using the key fob in the bedroom and activating the alarm at night. Will it go off if anyone goes to the toilet?
Sandy Nimick, Irvine
If you have sensors upstairs that are armed then they will activate the alarm if triggered. The system will allow you to set 2 zones so you could have downstairs active and upstairs in-active for example.
How can I keep the SIM card in it active? Is it possible to use the app or otherwise to get it send a text message?
Hovis, London
The system will allow you to use various notification settings for example you could have a notification sent every time the alarm is dis-armed thus keeping the sim card active.
I'm trying to understand the pros and cons of the HomeGuard series. If you're out and the system is set, can you only get back in if you have your smart phone with you?
SLG, Oxford
The main feature of the Homeguard system is that the central hub can connect to the internet via Wifi. If the alarm is set, you can deactivate it via your smartphone but you can also use the Keypad supplied with the system or a remote keyfob.
Does the smart hub need to be connected through an Ethernet cable to your router or can it connect through wifi and therefore be positioned away from the router?
Can the PIR sensors be powered by rechargeable batteries?
Andy Clayton, Nottingham
The manufacturer recommends that standard non-rechargeable batteries are used with all alarm accessories.

If I do not have mobile data turned on on my phone, would I receive notifications by text instead or do I need always on data.
If wifi goes down and the system is armed, would the siren go off or would it remain armed.
If wifi goes down can I still arm or disarm by text.
Lisa Hill, Birmingham
The alarm notifications can be sent via text message providing there is air time available on the Sim card. The alarm would remain armed if the wifi connection dropped and providing there is a Sim card installed you could arm or dis-arm the alarm via GSM functionality.
Does the system allow other users to disarm the alarm at certain times? So for example if I gave the cleaner the app could I restrict that user to only be able to disarm the alarm on a specific day?
Nick Price, BRIDGNORTH
This alarm system does not allow you to set specific times slots or days for use. You could however remotely de-activate the alarm for someone who needs access to the premises via the app providing there is an active internet connection and then re-activate once they have left.
