Can the ring smart spot light be connected direct to a mains supply without the plug being used.

I would always advise on using the plug provided as per the manufactures guidelines.

Considering purchasing ring camera to mount on the front outside wall above the doorway. It will only be approx 10 feet away from WiFi hub and it will connect with a smart phone. At what distance can I monitor the front part of the house?

Providing there is an active internet connection and you can launch the app on your mobile you should be able to monitor remotely from anywhere.
