We already had a Swann system at our house which we leave constantly running.It covers the front side and back of our property as well as inside allowing us to see what our dogs are up to when are out. Although we have been able to help neighbours with two incidents we felt our existing system needed a boost so decided to upgrade to this new kit and boy were we surprised. The picture quality is fantastic and so much clearer we can now not just see cars at night but also read the number plates.The inside camera is also so clear without lights on we wished this had been available when we brought our original or that we had taken the plunge and upgraded earlier. The new app is first class and such an improvement..Once we decided to upgrade we fortunately found Safe. Not only was their website helpful with comparisons it gave us different options to others and at a great price. Whats the catch we thought?? well we had great service with our order,quick delivery, and everything was included. so i don't know but i do know I would recommend them to anyone and they will be the first people I will contact if i need anything else.

Only negative things I can think of is;

1 - I wish they made an all black version of the cameras. Stands out a bit too much on black soffits. But that’s just a cosmetic thing.

2 - The BNC cables are good, they work perfectly fine, however I have found that running your own cables (a coax and power), and making off your own BNC and DC ends. It future proofs it and better quality and can shorten them to suit your cable runs.

But apart from them two things mentioned above the items work great.

When replacing the 8 cctv cameras around my home I spent some time comparing and decided that the Swann Dvr 4980d gave the best value in both specification and cost. Although in my 80s I am comfortable on ladders so fitted them myself in an afternoon. A very simple task that anyone can do as it is only pushing connectors together and attaching the wires to either the brickwork or the woodwork. The good length of wires enabled me to fit each one easily though the same hole under a window sill into the base unit. The entire setting up in my large 2 story home from start to viewing took my only 4 hours. We are now able to view all our garages and both drive entrances are covered giving us a good feeling of security. All cameras are at second story height so one tip is to place them within reach of a window so that a quick flick with a feather duster removes any dust or spiders that may affect the picture that we can view on either the screen adjacent to the control box or our TV. .

Camera kit delivered very quickly. The packaging was excellent with all of the component parts clearly identified and wrapped. The instructions are in three parts and very simple to follow step by step, also with very clear photograph detail to help with installation. The actual build quality of the cameras are good being in high density plastic to avoid corrosion and the picture range is very good, making it easy to cover most of our property. Initially the night vision was only visible with one camera, but looking through the help section quickly identified that the cameras needed adjusted away from the property walls as the infra red was bounced back from the rough cast. An easy fix. Installation was reasonably easy but I would recommend professional fitting if you don't know how you are going to route the cables to the HDR. Phone app connection was simple and very intuitive to use. The only minor criticism is that the HDR is noisy by comparison to our sky box and home cinema amp. The price you pay for peace if mind though. All things considered though it's a great value system and I plan to purchase another two cameras to maximize the eight channels and properly cover our property. A recommended purchase and supplier.

Very happy with product. Good piece of kit. Purchased 6 camera pack which covers pretty much whole perimeter of house. Very easy to install and set up and pretty much plug and play. Lots of options/features on setting up until you get what's right for you using hard drive which I am constantly tweaking. Have found that no matter how much I alter sensitivity though, heavy rain still sets cameras off but the cameras are on a corner and even though under eaves rain still blows across setting them off, same with the occasional fly/wasp/spider but only a minor niggle. Excellent picture quality, day and night. At night though, depending on angle I park car on drive it does not read number plate, just a blank space in place of numbers. Not all the time though but think it would catch number plate on approach. Have noticed and think read this before that cameras react better to something moving across rather than to toward and I can confirm this so bear in mind when setting up. Still not got RTSP function to work that's something I think can be worked out but got app on both phone and tablet working fine but you do need a good broadband for this to function properly. all in all very impressed and possibly looking to buy another couple of cameras for inside house. My son bought a different brand and once he'd saw ours wishes he had now got the same. One little tip - rather than use supplied mouse and cable you can use a wireless mouse - just means you're not sat right in front of screen, as if like me you connect you're system to tv it means you don't have to get up to check it. I can do anything from comfort of armchair and alarm function is great as have camera set up at front door so if anyone there you get an audible notification and can just flick channel on tv to see who's there. Great feature.

Great product easy to set up and get working.

I have had the Swann CCTV system before but this is a lot better.

The play back has greatly improved so much easier than before. The quality of the image on play back is excellent and the night vision is on point.

I would defiantly recommend this CCTV system so much so that I'm ordering another one for my Caravan.

I got the app for my mobile and can see live images of my home and I even get alerts when something is picked up on camera.

Overall you cannot go wrong with this system, the cables for each camera is adequate in length and it is easy to set up.

very good kit safe is very good to deal with

Nothing but problems with the DVR-4980, the latest problem is it is not finding its own hard drive. It has a constant message in a red on screen box stating no hard drive, if you go into the main menu and try to format the hard drive it keeps saying no hard drive found.

Try un pluging for an hour or so and even 2 days turn it back and it will not re boot the hard drive.

Contacted swann through their community group but thus far no response to this issue. So in my opinion Buyer Beware on the Swann DVR-4980.

The camera`s are excellent quality and I could highly recommend them, very very clear pictures both day and night and very easy to set up/install.

But be careful with recorder.

The DVR kit was easy to install with good clear instructions. The only problem was the fitting of the cameras to an external wall location where a junction box is required. Surprisingly Swann or Safe do not sell junction boxes that you can mount the cameras on. The Swann cameras do not align with any junction boxes on the market. It’s surprising that such a prominent cctv supplier does not provide junction boxes and cannot provide an answer to customer queries. From research it appears that they used to provide them a couple of years ago but stopped for some reason. You will understand how frustrating this is as the cameras had to fixed using only 2 of the 3 mounting holes to mounting boxes meant for other cctv cameras. I do not expect to get the prize but would welcome an explanation of why this problem exists and if it will be rectified. Thank you.
