My dad wants a system like this but doesn't have internet, can he still use this and view recorded footage on a monitor without the use of Ethernet connection.
Miransa, Newcastle
Internet connection is only required to receive alerts and access the remote viewing. The system will work perfectly fine without internet connectivity.
Can I use a Wi-Fi extender with a hard wired Ethernet connection (Wireless connection to my existing router) and connect the DVR to the extender to allow off-site monitoring?
Simon, Gale
Providing the Swann DVR is connected to your home broadband via the Ethernet cable provided, there should be no issues.
Can one system be accessed by several smartphones owned by different people. We are a family who wish to share the responsibility of monitoring our Alzheimer's -affected mother /grandmother.
Secondly one of the family lives in Thailand. Will he be able to access the system on his smartphone from there?
Ken, Chorley
A total of 10 devices can access remote viewing anywhere in the world as long as you have the Swann App downloaded.
The question was asked before about set up without a TV or monitor. Can ALL options be adjusted via smartphone or is a monitor required? I would want to turn off notifications when I’m at home.
K Alden, Reading
A monitor or TV is required on the initial set up of the system, notifications can be adjusted via the DVR options menu.
I want to set the camera to film my car on my driveway. If I catch someone damaging my car at night will I be able to clearly see the person's face?
Lynda smith, Rayleigh
The Swann cameras have a powerful 30 metre infrared night vision which kicks in as soon as the night falls, you would have no issues identifying a persons face.
Looking at the specifications it states that the motion detection is only up to 10 meters, that doesn't seem to be adequate as most users will need to cover a larger area.
Tom, HEYWOOD
The motion detection would be 10 metres range per camera, this is a standard range for most CCTV systems.
1) Can I use one 8 way splitter rather than the 2x 4 way splitters that came with my 6 camera system ?
2) My power socket is 2m away. Will a 5.1 extender cable work ok or will I need to use a 13amp power lead extender?
Rob Treeby, Lightwater
Using 4-way splitter is recommended but you can use an 8-way splitter as long as you ensure that the power adaptors have a 12v-4a output rating.
Will this work with a power line network adaptor for remote viewing ?
Can you have a mix of wireless and wired cameras on this DVR?
Dean Stackhouse, ASHINGTON
Remote viewing can be done by connecting an Ethernet cable from the DVR box to your router. Only wired dome or bullet cameras can be used with this system.
Is sound automatic on this model or do I need to buy anything in addition for the system to have sound.
Toni , Caldicot
To enable sound you would have to purchase an external microphone which would be plugged into the audio output port on the DVR. Microphones can be purchased from most electrical retailers.
Looking to install CCTV at my home. Is it possible to have one camera at my stables which is around 20m from the house itself?
ian, martin
While it is possible, the issue you may have is hiding/tidying the cable that runs from the stable to your home. I would also advise on purchasing additional Swann BNC Camera Cables.
Does this system need a static IP address to work for remote viewing from another PC? For example, from home is it possible to connect to the recording device remotely to make changes to the setup, viewing footage via a remote PC?
z khan, birmingham
There is no static IP needed, you can download the Home Safe View app to your laptop to remotely access the cameras and make minor changes if needed all from you desk top PC or laptop.
