I bought this safe with high expectations and to be honest I was left very disappointed. Having done my research this safe seemed to tick all the boxes with regard to my requirements. The size was just about right to accommodate what I wanted to keep safe. The cash rating was higher than required and the locking method/ system was just what I wanted. The most important thing was that it was made by Yale, a company which I knew to be a household name with a good reputation .

With this in mind i was expecting a quality product, how wrong could I be.

The build quality was of the lowest quality, I have a sheet metal worker for 32 years so I know good workmanship when I see it. The door and locking system worked fine, but the case was poorly constructed. The welding on the rear was missing in places as it was on one part or the other , and not done on the correct weld setting as it was a " Cold Weld". The case also bulged on either side where it had not been folded/ bent correctly, and the whole construction was not square ( at 90 degrees ).

The location the safe went in was a fully sealed and enclosed area, with only the front door visible, I had to use an angle grinder on the rear of the case to get to fit.

Inside the safe was covered with some cheap material which was poorly glued in , and there was glue on the inside also.

Therefore given that it was a Yale safe and the build quality was poor I would not recommend this safe. The only reason I did not return it was I did not have the time it as it would have held me up and I could not be doing with the hassle.

Perfect safe for home or office use, good internal covering, shelf, size and has a led lighting internally which is awesome. Installed it using coach bolts supplied through joists - perfect this thing is not moving ever! Digital key entry is easy to use and battery life good. i.e. my wife shows the safe opening every night to my 7 month old girl she is captivated by the blue display keypad sound and door opening as its installed at eye level in a cupboard. Light goes off a little too soon - could be adjusted to go on for another 20 seconds... but i'm being picky here lets face it. Its all great really.

It was not very clear in the product info about options to attach the safe to a wall or floor. However happy to see that there were holes in the bottom and the back allowing flexibility in fixing to a wall or floor. Exactly the product I was looking for. Different shelf positions would be good

The safe arrived well packaged and was delivered on expected delivery date.

Once unpacked it was easy to install and set-up for use.

The safe has been well built, not too bulky and finished with a thin carpet lining to each of the internal walls and shelf which has a good feel to it.

In addition to the above this safe has an internal light which automatically turns on when the door is opened and turns off after a short while however, this can be manually activated by the key panel on the front of the door.

When the door opens a tone sounds and you hear the mechanism opening.

Overall build quality is to a high standard and good value.

Bought this to replace e a small home safe. This is easy to programme with your own code. It has an LED blue backlit display and an internal light and removable shelf. This is big enough to store everything I wish to keep safe including space for small technology such as USB sticks, small laptop, iPad, hard drives. The item is fairly heavy so may require two people to move it into position. Includes fixing for security if desired. This is well worth the money spent on it and has given our family peace of mind that our valuables are safe.

Excellent safe, a good size but not to big, large enough to take everything I wanted to secure and big enough that you can move things around and find things.

Great level of security and very easy to bolt to the wall. Small enough to hide easily and big enough to be useful. Good strong lock and hinges and nice to have the key options in case the batteries go flat. Especially liked the removable shelf and the "flocked" finish on the inside.

The light when opening the door is really useful and the added security of being £2,00 cash certified was a bonus

I ordered the safe during lockdown and it arrived promptly. It was competitively priced and I always prefer to buy some a company other than Amazon where possible – they have enough money already.

Appearance

The safe looks really smart, although hopefully it won’t really be seen by anyone other than me. The keypad section has a metal finish and gives a feeling of quality. The inside is spacious and the removable shelf is very useful.

Setup

The safe was extremely easy to setup, but please note that it’s important you not only reset the code, but also the master code. This essentially means there are two separate codes you can use to open the safe. Both are 0000 to start with, so if you only reset one without resetting the other, you’ll still be able to get into it with 0000. This was explained in the instructions, but could overlooked if you were zipping through it. There are two backup keys supplied, nicely hidden behind the Yale logo, if you forget the code.

Build quality

This is where I was a little disappointed. The safe is very heavy and feels sturdy, but the welding in parts looks a little rushed and the interior carpet looks like it was thrown in and stuck wherever. I have no doubt people would struggle to get into this safe, so security wise I’m more than happy with it – I guess it’s some of the finer touches which I felt were a bit lacking.

Overall

I am happy with this safe and would recommend it to others.

I bought this safe after much deliberation and research and I have to say, I'm not disappointed. The website was informative and easy to use and gave all the specs I needed to make an informed decision. Delivery was very quick and the safe arrived well packaged and not advertising the contents. Installation was straightforward, however, bear in mind, the safe is heavy, so I advise not fitting it by yourself if, like me, you want it wall mounted...I struggled holding it up to mark the wall etc.

Having used the safe for some months now, I am very happy with it...it is robust, easy to use and gives the feeling of security... everything you need from a home safe.

All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend safe.co.uk for anyone looking for a safe.

A sturdy and well contructed safe that provides good capacity and represents very good value for money. The shelf offers good utility and the light although of limited coverage is a great aid to the user. My only criticism is the sheet of opening and closing instructions. The text and graphics were written from the viewpoint of someone who knows the system well but did not take account of a person using this particular type of digital lock for the first time. The safe.co website was easy to use and the description of the range of safes available were clear and concise.

I’ve bought a few safes from this range now and the quality and finish is unreal for a safe of this value.

And, given their weight and sturdiness, I’m really surprised that their insurance rating isn’t much higher.

Would definitely recommend

» Ask Question

What happens if the batteries run out of power. Would that mean that the pin number you have used would not work and you would not be able to gain access?
Bob, London
If the batteries run flat the PIN number is retained in the memory but the keypad will not work. You should open the safe using the override key so that you can insert new batteries on the inside of the safe door. Once the batteries are fitted you can use the safe with the PIN you originally set up.

I have purchased a Yale Certified Safe from you, can you advise if it is OK to bolt freestanding on a wall using bolts supplied, or does it need to be supported?
Anonymous
If installing to a wall we would recommend that the safe be supported by a shelf or plinth to distribute the weight of the unit. Should the weight be focused entirely on the fixing bolts they may eventually fail and cause damage to the wall itself.

Before I buy this product I'm wondering if I can fit it inside my bedroom cabinet? I'd fix it to the base of the cabinet which is of wood construction and sits on floorboards. There is no void between the cabinet and the floor boards. Will the bolts suffice? Also will they lock in place? I could also fix on to the back wall at the same time but I believe the back is of plaster board than a void before it goes into breeze block. Is this possible?
Anonymous
Ideally the Yale certified range needs to be installed into either solid concrete/brick or wooden support joists to allow the 4x 70mm fixing bolts to be fully secured. I would not advise bolting the unit into plaster or breeze block as this could cause damage to the walls.

The cash and valuables rating: are these still applicable if the safe is installed by myself? Presumably these ratings are what my home insurance provider will uphold for that particular safe?
Anonymous
The security ratings on this safe would still be applicable if you were to install this yourself, providing the safe is installed as per the manufacturer instructions. The cash and valuables rating is an indication of what an insurance company would cover in the event the safe was broken into or stolen.

Can this item or any item in the series be fixed inside a closet, fixed to the floor of the closet which is wood? I think this provides extra security and no need to cut carpet etc. Can you also please tell me the length of the bolts needed.
Avis, London
The Yale certified range are designed to be installed ideally into a solid concrete floor or brick wall. Fixing to wood is generally not recommended, especially if the wood is relatively thin. However, if you have no other alternative it is certainly better than no fixing fixing at all. If you fix to the floor of the closet I would advise trying to secure through the closet and into the floor joist. The length of the bolts supplied are 60mm, but they are not designed for timber so would need to be replaced with heavy duty timber screws.

I would like to wall fix my safe and I would like to understand if your shop can do it for me? If not, who should I ask?
matteo, london
This safe does not have the option for a delivery and install service. The safe is supplied with the fixings and there are pre-drilled holes in the base and back of the unit so you could install this yourself, alternatively an engineer or local tradesman should be able to carry out the installation for you. We do have safes of this level that do offer an installation service such as the Chubbsafes Water 30E should you wish to consider this.

The Yale Certified Safes by Yale have the facility to set up 2 codes; a user code and a master code. Please refer to the Yale Certified Safes User Guide to see how to do this.

Does this safe have to be screwed into the ground in order to be insured?

If so, how can I mount it onto laminate flooring?
Rai, London
The insurance rating on the safe is based on the unit being installed to a floor or wall. The safe requires installation via bolts to as solid substance as possible, concrete or brick being the ideal.

Your installation will include bolting the safe to the floor or wall using the anchor bolts included with your safe. Anchor bolts are designed for use with a solid surface such as brick or concrete. We cannot install your safe to floorboards or a stud plasterboard wall.

If you are choosing a wall installation you must ensure the skirting board has been removed prior to installation.
