Due to the alarms being wireless, something like a jammer, what would happen then? Would the alarm go off due to tampering or would the system not react?
Michael, Belfast
The alarm has a secure rolling code transmission signal and enhanced anti-jamming detection which would trigger the alarm if tampering in this way was attempted. This unique code is used by the system to determine that the correct remote control is attempting to contact the alarm.
In the instructions it says the PIRs should be fitted 2 metres from the floor. Will it effect performance if they are fitted higher as would prefer fitting closer to the ceiling at say 3 metres?
Bryan, Westhoughton
The PIR's could be fitted higher but you would need to adjust the angle to ensure that motion is detected and enable the best coverage of the room in which it is fitted.
Would you fit both a PIR and door sensor in the same room, or is that unnecessary?
Augustin McLean, Gillingham
It is recommended that you do not point the PIR directly at a door which includes a door contact sensor. It is not necessary to have both as just one of the sensors will trigger the alarm when somebody enters the room. There is also a chance of technical issues as the signal can get delayed.
Can the door sensors be configured to activate an alarm if the door is left open (after a configurable delay) even if the alarm is disarmed?
Gary, St Albans
The door sensors cannot be configured in anyway if the alarm is disarmed, the door sensor will only work when you set the alarm and notify you when its triggered.
Does the standard PIR, which is included, allow for a cats movement around the house Or would I need to purchase the special pet PIR?
Sara Haveron, ERITH
No, the standard PIR will trigger the alarm if there was any type of movement in the house. You would require the Yale Easy Fit Pet PIR Motion Detector which is ideal for small household pets.
Does the camera just take 1 picture, or is it a few, or a video? Is this all run from a Wifi connection? Are PIR's ok if they are pointing towards a window?
Anonymous
The Yale Easy Fit PIR Camera will take a single still image once motion is detected but you can request images of the room at any time via the smartphone app when your alarm is connected to wifi. If you prefer a video rather than an image you need the Yale Easy Fit PIR Video Camera. Always avoid pointing PIR's directly towards a window to avoid interference.
E.g. can I arm the system and all sensors, door contacts etc. when I am out the house but at night arm the system and just the door contacts?
Mike, Nottingham
The alarm can be set to create two different zones allowing you to arm one or both zones. This is useful if you decide to split the upstairs and downstairs of a property into two zones. Whilst the property is empty both zones could be active and during the night you could activate only the downstairs zone. This is known as Part Arming and is described in more detail on the Details Tab of this page.
What size pets do the pet friendly sensors allow for? I have a large dog approximately 42kg.
Lisa, Brentwood
The limit on our pet friendly sensors is 25kg so unfortunately this would not be suitable for yourself. However you might want to alarm the room by fitting a Yale Easy Fit Door Contact to the door or window. You would then be alarmed if you encountered any intruders trying to enter.
The PIR's supplied with the system as standard are not Pet Friendly. You can add Yale Easy Fit Pet PIR Motion Detector's as an optional extra from the listed accessories.
I've read that you need to buy Pet-friendly PIRs. Can you also buy Pet-Friendly PIRs with the camera built in? Can you build a kit to suit? I want only Pet-friendly PIRs, not overly fussed about video and want more door sensors. I don't want to pay for sensors I can't/won't use.
Gavin, Hinckley
The Pet-Friendly PIRs are not available with an image camera. Though you can build a kit to suit by adding additional sensors, PIR's and other Accessories to your system, the alarm itself is a pre-set sealed package and therefore the components within can not be removed or changed.
In normal use, what is the average life of the batteries on this product? i.e. How often will I need to get up a ladder and replace the batteries?
Lee
Battery power will be used only when the alarm is triggered, which should be very rare. Therefore, a good brand of batteries should last approximately 5 years as this is the average shelf life of a battery.
I am interested in fitting the door sensor and a PIR
If I have them both in the same room when I open the door that the sensor is connected to and that the PIR covers
Will this enter the entry mode and give me the time to unset the system or will the PIR set the alarm off?
Ayden, Hutton
Once one of the sensors has been triggered you will have the set entry/exit time period to de-activate the alarm. Once this time has expired if a senor detects further activity the siren will trigger.
Is the communication between the control box and devices encrypted?
Ian Lambert, Brighton
This alarm includes rolling code technology which enables a unique signal between the devices and hub every time a signal is sent between the components to ensure it is never intercepted or cloned.
Will this alarm work with the optional PIR camera?
John McQuilliam, Towcester
No, this alarm system is not compatible with the PIR camera. I would recommend having a look at our Yale Smart Home Alarm Kit - SR-320 as an alternative option.
Can the door contact be fitted to a up and over garage door?
Tony, Burnham
The Yale Door contact is designed to be used with most doors/windows. However the surface must be flat as possible so both the contact parts can connect. This is not always achievable with a garage door. It may be worth adding a Yale Easy Fit PIR Motion Detector to detect the door opening rather than a door contact.
Can one of the PIR sensors be fitted upside down, to enable landing to be "covered " from hallway stairs, on twist in stairs, like my old alarm, now obsolete, or fitted pointing downwards, from landing?
Bruce Kendall, Reading, Berks
The sensors have not been tested in this position so their performance accuracy is unknown and it is not recommended.
Does the alarm auto re-set after it has been triggered or is it a once only siren until re-set manually?
Shirley, Bingley
The alarm would not auto re-set. Once the alarm has been triggered, the siren will sound for up to 10 minutes. The alarm will remain in a triggered state and will sound immediately if one of the sensors is triggered before it is manually re-set.
I'm interested in buying this alarm but my house doesn't have a telephone line. Can the main unit of alarm connect to internet via Wi-Fi instead of LAN socket?
Thanks
Xiang
Ivan Xiang, London
Yes, This alarm works via WiFi and does not require a landline socket. The alarm 'hub' plugs directly in to your broadband router via the Ethernet cable supplied.
Can the Siren box be located more than 30 metres away from the rest of the components? Can I use the Yale Smart Home system for a business/office?
Maria, London
The Siren box needs to be located within 30 meters of the main Smart Alarm Hub. This alarm could be used in an office location providing there is an internet connection so that you receive notification of alarm activation.
We have frequent power cuts. Assuming the battery is fully charged, will the alarm go off every time the power goes off when the system is activated. If so is it possible to deactivate this feature.
Colin, Ely
A loss of power would not trigger the alarm. In the event of a power cut the back up battery would automatically power the alarm.
What are the key differences between the Easy Fit alarm systems and the Smart Home Alarms? They seem to use the same components.
Frank, London
The components for both systems are the same. The Smart Home Alarm series is the most recent series released, all of which can be used in conjunction with your smartphone. This is not the case with the Easy Fit Alarms where only the Yale Easy Fit SmartPhone Alarm has this capability.
How often the alarm will be triggered by mistake? If one is away is good to know the neighbours will not be annoyed unless there is a real reason.
Avraam, London
The alarm will only be triggered when motion is detected and it is incredibly reliable. When the alarm is triggered you will be alerted via your smartphone where you can deactivate the alarm yourself if you have reason to believe the alarm has been triggered by mistake.
Should you hide the panel/keypad? Burglars might recognise the system from the bell box and I'm concerned that it might be torn from the wall before it can call out.
Matt, Bristol
Yes I would always advise on installing the alarm in a secure location. It may also be worth noting that all our easy fit alarm systems come installed with an anti-tamper device. Any disturbance to the touch screen panel will trigger the siren automatically.
I read that push notification only works with iOS, although Android phones can also receive push notifications. Is it possible to configure this for my Android-based HTC?
Frank budge, Yateley
Unfortunately the push notifications are currently only available for iOS devices. This is confirmed on page 10 of the Easy Fit Smartphone Alarm User Guide. With an Android phone, you will receive SMS messages and emails when the alarm is triggered.
Hi, Please can you confirm whether or not this alarm can be controlled from 2 separate devices? I.E from my phone and from my wife's phone when we are in and out at different times?
Thanks
Tom
The Yale Smartphone alarm can be controlled by up to 5 registered smartphones via the Yale app.
Any motion would trigger the PIR sensors including pets. I recommend a Yale Easy Fit Pet PIR Motion Detector. These are suitable for small pets under 20kg.
Can the door/window contacts be applied to UPVC doors and windows. Is drilling required?
Julia Padgett, York
The Yale Easy Fit Door Contact is supplied with fixing screws for fixing to wood and double sided sticky foam pads for use on UPVC doors. Therefore, drilling is not always required.
Can the door sensor be fitted any way up as I only have a narrow edge to fit to?
Anonymous
The door sensor can be installed any way up, so long as the contacts are touching each other. The alarm is triggered once the contact is broke, when the door is opened.
Are the siren alarms easy to install onto the external walls? For example, Concrete walls with pebble dash?
Ken
The siren can be easily installed with a power drill and screwdriver with the fixings provided. A pebble dash wall would prevent a flush fit but wouldn't cause a problem with the installation.
What safeguards are there in using a Keyfob? If somebody steals or finds it (assuming they know where you live) can they not just disarm the alarm? I read somewhere that an entry detector needs to be activated before the keyfob can be used to disarm the alarm - therefore do you need to keep the Keyfob away from your house keys?
Adrian, Northampton
The Yale Easy Fit Keyfob can be used to arm or disarm the alarm, once activated, with a simple button press. If the keyfob is lost or stolen, you can delete the device from the system at any time.
Do the lights on the alarm box flash when armed or is it only when the alarm is triggered?
Thanks
Anonymous
The siren box on the Yale Easy Fit Alarms Series has a blue light which flashes when the alarm is triggered. There is also a comfort LED which will stay on all the time. This light can be turned off at any time on the control panel.
Would be nice if you could add smoke alarms to the system?
mark, livids
The Yale Easy Fit Smoke Detector is available and is compatible with any of the Yale Easy Fit Alarms Series. This smoke detector can be purchased as a singular item or as an accessory at a lower price, when purchased together with the alarm system.
If a burglar set off the alarm, the siren will sound for up to 10 minutes and then stop. Does the system re arm once this period has expired, so that if the burglar re enters the premises, it will sound again?
Tim, Sheffield
Yes once the alert period has expired the system re-arms so if one of the sensors is triggered the alarm will activate again.
Can I add 11 door sensors and 4 PIR video camera to the Yale Easy Fit SmartPhone Alarm kit?
Harmuck, Hounslow
The Smartphone Alarm will accept up to 20 paired devices that can include a combination of no more than 6 camera PIR's or video camera PIR's. This alarm includes 5 devices as standard, one of which is a camera. This means you can add an additional 15 devices of which 5 can be cameras.
Adding 11 Door Sensors and 4 Video Cameras will take you up to the maximum of 20 devices.
I am currently renovating my house and do not have broadband/Wifi at the premises. Can I still install and operate this system without broadband/Wifi prior to the broadband getting installed?
I would like to use this to protect a detached garage that is 10 meters from the proposed hub location. Could the keypad be mounted in the house and the detector in the garage (three door switches and one PIR)?
Tim Gregory, Ashby
The sensors can be located anywhere within a 25 meter range from the central hub. A sensor in a detached garage would operate as normal if the range to the central hub is within 25 meters.
What happens if the Internet goes down then the alarm is activated via PIR or other sensor? Does it still act like a normal non-smart alarm?
Simon Dearsly, London
If the internet goes down the alarm will still act as a standard alarm as the siren will still sound when triggered. The notification element will be disabled because the control unit needs an internet connection in order to send you a notification.
Can you disable the alarm once trigged with your phone when you're not at home
Dave, MK
Yes, the Yale SmartPhone App will allow you to deactivate the alarm remotely if triggered. You can also activate the alarm system remotely via the app if required.
I just want to know the differences between the Smart Hub of Yale SR-330 Smart Home Alarm and wifi control box of Easy Fit Smartphone EF-KIT3. Please mention in detail about functions of both.
Hamid Majeed, Stoke On Trent
The Yale Wireless Smart Home Alarms include an updated control box which is smaller in size, but includes the same specification as the Smartphone Alarm.
The PIR motion detectors that are included are not pet friendly. You would need to purchase the Yale Easy Fit Pet PIR Motion Detector which is also available to purchase as an accessory with the Smartphone alarm.
On the app side can multiple users download it or does it have to be just 1? What if wifi doensnt reach can i use a wifi extender?
lee, dudley
Multiple users can download the app to synchronise with the alarm. You will need to be connected to Wifi for this to be operational, so you could use a Wifi extender to increase the range if needed.
Will these devices work outside? I'd like to cover areas inside and outside my house and garage. If not does Yale have an alternative solution?
Stephen Jefferies, Cheltenham
Unfortunately all the components included with the Yale alarms are for indoor use only. one solution could be to connect a Yale CCTV Kit using the Yale CCTV Alarm Link USB Adaptor. This will allow you to control the alarm and outdoor CCTV cameras with one SmartPhone App.
I currently have a few smart home devices. One being Philips hue lighting which itself use's a wireless frequency seperate to the house WLAN and via a hub. Does the alarm use a propriety frequency that shouldn't cause interference with other smart device using individual wireless hubs?
Can you set multiple zones e.g entrance zone, part set for night and full set for day?
Adam, Mirfield
The Yale alarms run on an 434mhz and 868mhz frequency, if any other smart devices you have run on the same there may be some interference. The alarm will allow you to set 2 zones and part arming is available so that one or both zones can be active.
What is the difference between the Smartphone kit and the Smart Home kits?
Dean, Essex
The new Yale Smart Home Alarms include an updated smart hub and include different combinations of alarm accessories across the range. All Smartphone and Smart Home alarms can be controlled via a smartphone and operate with the same accessories.
Do the PIR motion detectors and PIR cameras get triggered by a light switching on and off without anyone moving in the room or are they only sensitive to movement?
marco, london
The PIR sensors and cameras are motion activated only.
When the PIR video camera sends a video to a phone is this stored somewhere it can be reviewed repeatedly? Can you also send the video to someone via an email, for evidence etc?
Andy, Batey
Once a video has been sent to a phone, this video is available via the Yale App and can be reviewed repeatedly. The video will remain indefinitely (memory permitting) until you decide to delete it. You cannot export videos from the App. Only still images can be copied and sent via email or text message.
You mention about the SMS service only running up until 2018. What happens after this and also after the free 20 SMS? What will the cost be after this?
chris, london
The expiry date of the central server is as mentioned 2018 however when the time comes Yale would of course renew the server. The 20 free SMS messages per account can be topped up free of charge by calling Yale directly.
Regarding the maximum of six devices of a particular type, does this included PIR's?
David, Glasgow
The system can be expanded to use up to 20 devices including Yale Easy Fit PIR Motion Detectors. You are limited to a maximum of 6 for the PIR Cameras or PIR Video cameras.
I opened up my new Yale smart alarm system using my ipad. I have now downloaded the app on my iphone but this will not connect, you just get the revolving circle trying to access.
Roy Porter, Waltham Abbey
To connect your smartphone to the alarm system with your mobile you will receive an authorisation code via SMS during the set up process. By entering this number and following the Smartphone Alarm User Guide, you should be able to connect your phone. If you are experiencing technical difficulties please contact our customer services department.
Is there a way to make this alarm give a call along with sending an sms and email? If there is an intruder it would be better to get a phone call rather than get an sms or email which can be missed.
Anonymous
The SmartPhone alarm does not have the facility to call you when the alarm is triggered. You would need the Yale Easy Fit Telecommunicating Alarm which connects to your landline socket and can call up to 3 different numbers when the alarm is triggered.
