Due to the alarms being wireless, something like a jammer, what would happen then? Would the alarm go off due to tampering or would the system not react?
Michael, Belfast
The alarm has a secure rolling code transmission signal and enhanced anti-jamming detection which would trigger the alarm if tampering in this way was attempted. This unique code is used by the system to determine that the correct remote control is attempting to contact the alarm.
In the instructions it says the PIRs should be fitted 2 metres from the floor. Will it effect performance if they are fitted higher as would prefer fitting closer to the ceiling at say 3 metres?
Bryan, Westhoughton
The PIR's could be fitted higher but you would need to adjust the angle to ensure that motion is detected and enable the best coverage of the room in which it is fitted.
Would you fit both a PIR and door sensor in the same room, or is that unnecessary?
Augustin McLean, Gillingham
It is recommended that you do not point the PIR directly at a door which includes a door contact sensor. It is not necessary to have both as just one of the sensors will trigger the alarm when somebody enters the room. There is also a chance of technical issues as the signal can get delayed.
Can the door sensors be configured to activate an alarm if the door is left open (after a configurable delay) even if the alarm is disarmed?
Gary, St Albans
The door sensors cannot be configured in anyway if the alarm is disarmed, the door sensor will only work when you set the alarm and notify you when its triggered.
Does the standard PIR, which is included, allow for a cats movement around the house Or would I need to purchase the special pet PIR?
Sara Haveron, ERITH
No, the standard PIR will trigger the alarm if there was any type of movement in the house. You would require the Yale Easy Fit Pet PIR Motion Detector which is ideal for small household pets.
I have two dogs, do the Pet friendly PIR's work with multiple pets? (They are 17kg each.)
CM, London
The limit on our pet friendly sensors is 25kg, so if you have two pets at 17kg each then its most likely to trigger the alarm. However I can recommend using the Yale Easy Fit Door Contact
Can I combine an Easyfit Kit 1 and Kit 2 to provide me a single system with coverage for a larger house, with a functional siren at the front and back, using the keypad from the Kit 2 as an extra entry device?
Does the alarm/siren activate if a certain number of wrong pin codes are entered in to the system.
Ross McCowan, Inverness
When disarming you have an entry period of of between 10-30 seconds. Regardless of how PIN codes are entered the alarm will trigger once the entry time has elapsed.
When arming the alarm 3 incorrect PIN code attempts will disable the control panel for 6 minutes. After which time you receive a further 3 attempts.
E.g. can I arm the system and all sensors, door contacts etc. when I am out the house but at night arm the system and just the door contacts?
Mike, Nottingham
The alarm can be set to create two different zones allowing you to arm one or both zones. This is useful if you decide to split the upstairs and downstairs of a property into two zones. Whilst the property is empty both zones could be active and during the night you could activate only the downstairs zone. This is known as Part Arming and is described in more detail on the Details Tab of this page.
What size pets do the pet friendly sensors allow for? I have a large dog approximately 42kg.
Lisa, Brentwood
The limit on our pet friendly sensors is 25kg so unfortunately this would not be suitable for yourself. However you might want to alarm the room by fitting a Yale Easy Fit Door Contact to the door or window. You would then be alarmed if you encountered any intruders trying to enter.
I am thinking of buying this easy fit system with a couple fobs and extra PIR's, is it easy to pair up the additional items to the system?
Alan, Nottingham
The beauty of the Yale Easy Fit Alarms is that they are easy to fit. This model can have up to 30 additional devices which can easily be paired with your alarm system, as described in the user guide.
The PIR's supplied with the system as standard are not Pet Friendly. You can add Yale Easy Fit Pet PIR Motion Detector's as an optional extra from the listed accessories.
Is it possible to remotely activate/deactivate the 'Yale Easy Fit Telecommunicating Alarm' using a mobile phone (non-smartphone)?
Thank you.
Anonymous
You can activate or deactivate this alarm using any touch tone phone by pressing the buttons on the phone keypad. This includes landlines, mobiles and SmartPhones.
In normal use, what is the average life of the batteries on this product? i.e. How often will I need to get up a ladder and replace the batteries?
Lee
Battery power will be used only when the alarm is triggered, which should be very rare. Therefore, a good brand of batteries should last approximately 5 years as this is the average shelf life of a battery.
I am interested in fitting the door sensor and a PIR
If I have them both in the same room when I open the door that the sensor is connected to and that the PIR covers
Will this enter the entry mode and give me the time to unset the system or will the PIR set the alarm off?
Ayden, Hutton
Once one of the sensors has been triggered you will have the set entry/exit time period to de-activate the alarm. Once this time has expired if a senor detects further activity the siren will trigger.
Can the alarm be linked, activated and deactivated from more than one mobile phone?
Ayo , Orpington
This system is not compatible with mobile phones and will alert via landline numbers only. We do offer Yale Smart Home Alarms that can be used with your smartphone and have multiple mobiles linked to the system.
Will this alarm work with the optional PIR camera?
John McQuilliam, Towcester
No, this alarm system is not compatible with the PIR camera. I would recommend having a look at our Yale Smart Home Alarm Kit - SR-320 as an alternative option.
Can the door contact be fitted to a up and over garage door?
Tony, Burnham
The Yale Door contact is designed to be used with most doors/windows. However the surface must be flat as possible so both the contact parts can connect. This is not always achievable with a garage door. It may be worth adding a Yale Easy Fit PIR Motion Detector to detect the door opening rather than a door contact.
Can one of the PIR sensors be fitted upside down, to enable landing to be "covered " from hallway stairs, on twist in stairs, like my old alarm, now obsolete, or fitted pointing downwards, from landing?
Bruce Kendall, Reading, Berks
The sensors have not been tested in this position so their performance accuracy is unknown and it is not recommended.
Does the alarm auto re-set after it has been triggered or is it a once only siren until re-set manually?
Shirley, Bingley
The alarm would not auto re-set. Once the alarm has been triggered, the siren will sound for up to 10 minutes. The alarm will remain in a triggered state and will sound immediately if one of the sensors is triggered before it is manually re-set.
We have frequent power cuts. Assuming the battery is fully charged, will the alarm go off every time the power goes off when the system is activated. If so is it possible to deactivate this feature.
Colin, Ely
A loss of power would not trigger the alarm. In the event of a power cut the back up battery would automatically power the alarm.
What are the key differences between the Easy Fit alarm systems and the Smart Home Alarms? They seem to use the same components.
Frank, London
The components for both systems are the same. The Smart Home Alarm series is the most recent series released, all of which can be used in conjunction with your smartphone. This is not the case with the Easy Fit Alarms where only the Yale Easy Fit SmartPhone Alarm has this capability.
Can I choose which sensors are activated when the system is armed? For example, if I wanted the system to be active but I wanted to exclude, say, one or more of the PIRs, is that possible?
Peter, Street, Somerset
The alarm system will allow you to set zones. For example at night you could have the downstairs zone active so the alarm triggers if an intruder is detected whilst the upstairs zone is inactive, However all the sensors within the zone would be on the same setting, you can not activate or de-activate specific sensors within a zone.
Should you hide the panel/keypad? Burglars might recognise the system from the bell box and I'm concerned that it might be torn from the wall before it can call out.
Matt, Bristol
Yes I would always advise on installing the alarm in a secure location. It may also be worth noting that all our easy fit alarm systems come installed with an anti-tamper device. Any disturbance to the touch screen panel will trigger the siren automatically.
The Yale Easy Fit Telecommunicating Alarm includes a working alarm and a dummy alarm. I would like to fit working alarms at the front and side of the hous (which is on a corner). Is a second working alarm possible and if so, is it available?
As it happens, I would also want additional (non pet) PIRS which I gather are also available and and additional keyfob / keypad.
Frank, London
Active or dummy siren boxes cannot be purchased as an accessory for the alarm system. Additional PIR's, Keyfobs and keypads can be added from the listed accessories at the point of order.
Any motion would trigger the PIR sensors including pets. I recommend a Yale Easy Fit Pet PIR Motion Detector. These are suitable for small pets under 20kg.
Can the door/window contacts be applied to UPVC doors and windows. Is drilling required?
Julia Padgett, York
The Yale Easy Fit Door Contact is supplied with fixing screws for fixing to wood and double sided sticky foam pads for use on UPVC doors. Therefore, drilling is not always required.
Can the door sensor be fitted any way up as I only have a narrow edge to fit to?
Anonymous
The door sensor can be installed any way up, so long as the contacts are touching each other. The alarm is triggered once the contact is broke, when the door is opened.
Does the system allow for different users and can it log times?
Kate, Glenrothes
Yes you can add new users via the app in the account settings menu. The alarm also has a built in log which will memorise the last 30 system events including all alarming and disarming event times.
Are the siren alarms easy to install onto the external walls? For example, Concrete walls with pebble dash?
Ken
The siren can be easily installed with a power drill and screwdriver with the fixings provided. A pebble dash wall would prevent a flush fit but wouldn't cause a problem with the installation.
What happens if the batteries are dying / dead in the siren box. Will the box start beeping or will I receive any kind of notification?
Jarad, Rhondda
When the power is running low, the fault LED will be lit on the control panel and the siren will produce a series of pips and flashes during arming and disarming.
What safeguards are there in using a Keyfob? If somebody steals or finds it (assuming they know where you live) can they not just disarm the alarm? I read somewhere that an entry detector needs to be activated before the keyfob can be used to disarm the alarm - therefore do you need to keep the Keyfob away from your house keys?
Adrian, Northampton
The Yale Easy Fit Keyfob can be used to arm or disarm the alarm, once activated, with a simple button press. If the keyfob is lost or stolen, you can delete the device from the system at any time.
Is it possible to arm exterior door sensors while leaving room PIRs unarmed, so an occupied property could be protected overnight?
Nick, Fleetwood
The alarm system allows you to set 2 zones meaning you could for example have the downstairs zone activated and the upstairs de-activated. All sensors within a zone however would be active, individual sensors can not disarmed or armed within a zone.
Do the lights on the alarm box flash when armed or is it only when the alarm is triggered?
Thanks
Anonymous
The siren box on the Yale Easy Fit Alarms Series has a blue light which flashes when the alarm is triggered. There is also a comfort LED which will stay on all the time. This light can be turned off at any time on the control panel.
I have my phone line upstairs. So, the control panel would need to be there. Is there any other option to have another fob/pad near the main door?
SHAHIDUR Rahman, london
With the main control panel upstairs you could add the Yale Easy Fit Keypad or the Yale Easy Fit Keyfob to your alarm system. Providing these components are within the 30 meter wireless range you could control the alarm from a fixed or mobile position with these accessories.
I have a cat, so won't be able to use the non-pet friendly PIRs. Is the control panel available separately, or is it possible to swap out the PIRs for pet-friendly PIRs for a nominal price?
Would be nice if you could add smoke alarms to the system?
mark, livids
The Yale Easy Fit Smoke Detector is available and is compatible with any of the Yale Easy Fit Alarms Series. This smoke detector can be purchased as a singular item or as an accessory at a lower price, when purchased together with the alarm system.
If a burglar set off the alarm, the siren will sound for up to 10 minutes and then stop. Does the system re arm once this period has expired, so that if the burglar re enters the premises, it will sound again?
Tim, Sheffield
Yes once the alert period has expired the system re-arms so if one of the sensors is triggered the alarm will activate again.
On the Yale EF-KIT2 can you disable the disarming and arming sounds that the internal control panel makes? I sometimes leave early in the morning so don't want to wake anyone else in the house. I would be using a keyfob to disarm and then re-arm the alarm.
Marc, Chelmsford
This alarm and the Smart Home Alarms have a silent feature to disable any sounds from the alarm hub.
I read that when buying the easy-fit kit, the door and PIR sensors come 'pre-paired' with the control unit - does this mean that I wouldn't need to pair these at installation, or conversely does it mean there would need to be some extra step involved if I wanted to add additional sensors at some future date?
Dave, Wainwright
The alarm components with in the alarm kit are pre-linked ready for installation on arrival. Additional sensors that are added to the alarm system will need to be synced/added at the control panel via the 'Add Device' menu option.
Do you have to have this alarm connected to a telephone socket if your not needing the telephone communications aspect? Or will it stop the panel working?
Anthony, Birmingham
The control panel is battery powered and will still operate as an alarm without being connected to the phone line. If the alarm is triggered the siren will still sound as normal, but you will not be notified by phone.
If someone cuts the telephone line even before entering the house, will that trigger the alarm? I understand it wont be able to call me - but would cutting the telephone line sound the siren?
Gagan, Gandhi
Cutting the phone line externally would not trigger the alarm. The alarm would act as normal and be triggered as soon as they attempt to enter the property. As you correctly say, cutting the phone line would prevent you being notified.
It is possible to eliminate this problem by opting for a GSM Alarm. Rather than using your traditional phone line, the alarm uses a pay as you go SIM card to notify you when the alarm is triggered. The ERA Vault - Wireless SmartPhone Alarm is a similarly priced model offering this feature.
Would it be possible to fit the control panel in a cupboard out of sight? Or would this restrict the system connections?
Terry fisher, Nottingham
The control hub could be fitted here providing it can be connected to the landline port. The thickness of external/internal walls can sometimes effect the signal reducing its range. If components are within the wireless range of the hub this should not really be an issue.
My only phone line is upstairs I have also bought the extra keypad so my plan is to have the main pad upstairs and the secondary pad near the door. Probably should have asked this before I bought it, but will that work ok?
Darren Yapp, STOCKPORT
Yes you can connect the main control hub to the Landline and have the additional keypad in a secondary location providing it is within the wireless range of the main control hub.
Does this alarm have a door chime on the entry/exit?
alan, Sheffield
This alarm does not come with a door chime upon entry/exit. However when you enter your code before leaving it will proceed to beep. This will also happen upon entry when you trigger a sensor, this wont stop until you successfully enter a valid code.
Hi, will the system work with Virgin Cable or is it only with a BT phone line system? Does the system comply with those specified in terms of insurance for the premises? Many thanks
Asim, cardiff
This alarm will work with any residential phone line provided by BT or Virgin. As this alarm is an "Easy Fit" alarm and installed on a DIY basis, it is not insurance rated.
Is main panel battery backed & is external siren wired to panel or wireless relying on battery power?
Anonymous
The control panel requires mains power via a regular plug socket. In the event of a power failure there is a back up battery pack which will maintain power. The siren box is wireless and relies solely on batteries for power.
I have an Easy Fit Telecommunicating Alarm which is not installed yet.
1- Can I add more PIR and not the pet ones?
2- Can I use it without being connected to a landline?
ariel, colindale
The Easy Fit alarms will work with up to 30 devices connected, including PIR motion detectors and pet friendly PIR motion detectors. The alarm will work as a traditional alarm when not connected to a landline phone socket, but the alarm notification by phone feature will not work.
We would like to fit a Yale easy fit alarm kit but we have a large dog, weight 25kg. What do you recommend? Is this dog too big for the pet sensors?
Dave, Southampton
The Pet PIR's are designed to ignore animals under 25kg. It's likely that your dog would set off the alarm. You may prefer to use Yale EF-DC Easy Fit Door Contact's on your doors and windows rather than use PIR's
I'm wondering how does the remote activation/deactivation work if I have an answering machine. Does the answering machine or the control panel answer the phone first? Can it be used effectively when an answering machine is present?
Dominic, Edinburgh
Activation and deactivation is completed in one ring by following the steps in the user guide. This means that the initial call to set up these features would never go to voice mail.
Will the alarm call out if your portable landline phone runs out of battery?
Ken
The Yale Telecommunicating alarm is connected directly to your phone socket. Therefore, the alarm would still function normally even if your portable handset runs out of battery.
If the alarm calls you and you pick up, for test and real calls would this be counted as a chargeable phone call with your call provider?
Ken
Yes, as the Yale Telecommunicating Alarm would be connected to your landline telephone socket, all answered calls would be charged at your standard rate.
If the alarm is activated and the system starts dialling the three numbers, if the first number is answered by an ansafone or goes to voicemail, will it continue to dial the other numbers until a human answers?
Andy Malham, Leeds
If a designated number is called and goes to voicemail the system will leave a 10 second message and then call the next registered number.
When a battery is running low in a PIR is there any warning to alert you to change it? Also, can you part arm from an additional keypad?
Bill, Rutherglen
Yes, if there is any issues with battery power in any of the accessories the main control panel would notify you. Part arming the alarm can only be done from the main control panel itself.
Can a Wi-Fi control box work in tandem with the Easy Fit Telecommunicating Alarm?
Adrian, Kislingbury
The Yale Easy Fit Telecommunicating Alarm connects to a telephone line and has no connectivity to a WiFi control box. You may wish to consider our range of Smart Home Alarms, which connect to WiFi in order to send notifications to your smartphone.
If we are having work done and need to turn off our electricity supply for a short while and then turn it back on, would this set off our Yale Telecommunicating alarm if it is not actually set?
Sandra Bunker, Bolton
As long as the alarm is not set turning off the main power would not activate the alarm.
How long will the battery last in the bell box and how is it changed/replaced?
Mark Hollan, Barnsley
Battery power will be used only when the alarm is triggered, which should be very rare. Therefore, a good brand of batteries should last approximately 2 years. You can change the batteries by first disarming the tamper mode and then unscrewing the front cover of the bell box.
How many window sensors would I need if the window has 2 doors which open separately and independently? Also, what's the difference between the keyfob and keypad control panel? Can they work together?
Vitantonio Musa, Ashford
You would need 2 Easy Fit Door Contacts, one for each door or window. The Yale Easy Fit Keypad and the Yale Easy Fit Keyfob can be used together. To arm or disarm the alarm the Keypad requires a unique PIN code. The Keyfob requires a simple button press and no PIN code.
How many people can be assigned to receive alerts should the alarm be triggered?
Shaf, London
The alarm system can store up to three individual telephone numbers and will ring in an order of your choice when the alarm is triggered. the sequence will end once the call is answered.
Does the Telecommunicating Alarm system have to be connected to a landline? Will it still work (minus the telephone notification) without being connected to one?
C, suffolk
If the Yale Telecommunicating Alarm is not connected to a landline, the siren will still sound once the alarm is triggered. In order to receive notifications, this alarm must be connected to a landline.
I have a Yale Telecommunications Alarm and was just wondering if I was to set the alarm before bed how would I get up and leave for work without setting off the alarms? Do you get a set amount of time to get up and deactivate the system or would a key fob be a option?
matthew philpott, Hampshire
This alarm has a Home-arm or Zonal setting available. This allows the home to be partially armed. You can add a Yale Easy Fit Keyfob or a Yale Easy Fit Keypad to the alarm kit and keep it upstairs to arm and disarm the alarm remotely.
Can the easy fit telecommunicating alarm be fitted in a flat without the use of the external box/siren?
I understand the panel has its own alarm/siren so can this be used without the external box as I am not allowed to fit components to the external wall.
Ian Parker, Essex
You could fit this alarm and not use the external siren box. The control panel itself does emit its own alarm tone so this would sound in the event the alarm is triggered, however this would only be heard if inside the premises. Of course you also have the benefit of the alarm ringing your desired number when the alarm is triggered.
I intend to install a Yale system where power cuts are common. If there is a power cut for several hours what will happen?
Robert Gibbs, Southampton
In the event of a power cut the alarm system would still function as there is a rechargeable battery fitted inside the control unit which serves as a backup. Once fully charged, the battery will provide backup power for a minimum of 10 hours.
With the telecommunicating alarm, what happens if I miss the call? Will I get another call or a voice message?
Anonymous
The alarm system will leave a 10 second voice message if the call is not answered. The system will then dial the next registered phone number until the call is answered.
If someone broke in and tried to remove control panel would the alarm be triggered automatically or would there be a 30 second delay. If alarm was tampered with would alarm go off automatically?
Nicky barn
This alarm system is fitted with an anti-tamper device which will set the alarm off immediately providing it is armed.
I am thinking of buying Yale Easy Fit Telecommunication Alarm. I have the impression from the on-line manual that when arming or dis-arming the external siren will bleep. If true can you deactivate this.
Chris, Ashford, Middlesex
Yes, the external siren an be programmed and set on silent mode. This can be found in the advance setting of your instruction manual.
Does the alarm sound / trigger a call if the anti jamming system detects a possible jamming attempt?
Iain, Bristol
If the system senses a jamming interference or an attempted jamming interference the alarm will be triggered and an alarm notification call will be made.
How does the system ring out. Does it need to be connected to a landline or GSM
Anonymous
The main control panel of the Telecommunicating Alarm should be connected to a landline telephone socket and the cable required to do this is included. If locating the panel next to a landline makes arming/disarming a bit more difficult when entering or leaving the property you could add the Yale Easy Fit Keypad. The main control panel could be used to access the more advanced features and the battery powered keypad just for arming/disarming.
