Does the key lock the handle from the inside ? So if the door is locked from outside no one can open door with handle.
andrew armon, Southampton
The lock can be used as normal however deadlocking it internally means that the internal handle cannot be moved when locked, this would be an extra security feature.

When you say the latch cannot be reversed, do you mean that you have tried and it is actually impossible. Or just that it would void the warranty, and it no longer complies with the British Standard. Thanks, Martin.
Martin, New Milton
As with any other insurance rated night latch the Yale PBS range is designed for inwards opening doors only and the latch bolt physically cannot be reversed. However if you are looking for a reversible nightlatch, I can recommend the Yale 84 - Standard Night Latch (40mm) although this is not insurance approved.

Is this lock reversible for an outward opening door?
dave, clacton
The Latch cannot be reversed to make it suitable for outward opening doors. It's only the range of Yale Standard Nightlatches that can be reversed. You would also need to purchase the "Reverse Strike" to make it compatible.

As the lock can be snibbed open from inside, can the door be opened using key from the outside if snibbed from inside?
Bernie, Co Down
Once the Snib has been activated it would deadlock the latch in place meaning that the door cannot be opened with the key.

Lock spec says door thickness is 45 - 57mm which is what most locks specify. Is 45 mm really the minimum thickness of door?
Ray, Hitchin
Most external doors have a minimum thickness of 45mm which is required for this lock. There are some auto deadlocking nightlatches which require a lesser thickness, such as the ERA 1730 - Auto Deadlocking Nightlatch (60mm).

Is this a "mortice deadlock with a least 5 levers or a rim deadlock conforming to British Standard 3621"? And what's a rim deadlock? Thanks!
Anonymous
This lock is a Deadlocking Rim Nightlatch conforming to BS3621. The term 'Rim lock' refers to a lock that is made to be installed to the face of the door. A 'mortice' lock is the exact opposite as they are set within the body of a door. Both types of lock are available with a British Standard BS3621 - Insurance approved rating.
