Legge 3709LK - Flat Pattern Latch (76mm) Reviews

I am sure a lot of people are saying the same about this product. Bought as replacements for OEM kit fitted in the 60/70's. Faceplates not the same size so lots of chiselling and hammering required. Just typical of our Country, we originally make something in groats and bushels; then go metric in something completely different with holes in the wrong place. Really good product - PIA to fit.

I was replacing door handles and discovered the locks were not found easily. Safe is the only supplier I could find. The locks fit perfectly and were easy to install. Job done

I couldn't find a replacement 76mm flat pattern latch anywhere - they all seem to be the circular ones these days. I'm so pleased to have found the Safe site and this Legge latch. It's horrendous when these things fail and you can't open the door except by chiselling away at the door jam and prizing the open through the mess you make. This Legge looks far better and it's operation is much smoother than the cheap one it replaced. I hope Safe continue to stock this product for people who need replacements because it's a bit tricky fitting a round one into a square hole!

Did the job but could have done with a stronger spring for unsprung knobs.

Good modern replacement for same product made almost 100 years ago

Replaced 50 year old latches without anything to do but a few screws. Perfect

It was (my fault when I measured and messed up) slightly tight to fit.

However it's been fitted for over a week now and it's ideal .

i was amazed they were still making this door catch, our house was built 40 years ago and i was able to get the exact same one to replace the the catch on one of our doors, just have to be sure you measure it exactly as there

Hi I would highly recommend this product it was easy to fit also it is almost impossible to find this size on the market I bought three just in case i needed it in the future it took me about 10 minutes to put on I have a door that opens and shuts better than it did before i would recommend this company to everybody and the difference sizes is great most DIY stores only sell one or two sizes and they are I've too big or small and quite expensive I have told friends and familie if they ever need these products to check this site

Drop in replacement for existing latches. Seems sturdy enough, for non locking internal doors. Nice positive action, no apparent sloppiness in the latch bolt or mechanism. Time will tell if they hold up as well as their predecessors, but so far they seem to be just the job and a lot easier than trying to reconfigure the door for a different latch

So pleased I found one with the same dimensions to fit my old doors. The door handles and latch were so dodgy I was in danger of getting locked in my living room. I fitted easily and replaced the handles and it is all good again

After searching a lot I found this item and got it in time. I had to replace the same old on inside of my door. The size and shape of this was not matching with available latch door locks. But finally I found it and it's working good.

I needed a replacement for room door latch - the original was probably over fifty years old. I was hoping to find one of similar dimensions and layout which would not require any modifications to, or replacement of, the original door. The Legge 3709LK provided exactly what I needed, in fact I purchased a couple extra in case I found other latches in the original doors needed replacing in the future.

Been looking for these latches for a replacement not had much luck finding them but got them from safe fast delivery well packed good quality latches just pulled the old ones out Pushed new ones in

We had 2 bedroom doors decide to stop working 2days apart I took out the lock and tried a repair but as I put the lock back together and tried it it broke again ,,,So I look on line and luckily found new replacements,,I did panic as these locks were old and were imperial size same as my doors,,So I might have to change the doors as well there are 5 on the same landing ,which, would cost a few hundred pounds,,instead of the few pounds I paid for these replacements ,,I was VERY Pleasantly surprised at the very good quality and price Thank You

Except that it was easy to fit as it was a direct replacement for a a 50 year old one that had just plain worn out with constant use maybe 100 times a a day. Will this one last as long hope so but then I will be long gone!

difficult to find door catches with longer backset which was more common in older properties.

I was lucky to find this replacement latch, it's good quality, no problems fitting it, little bit pricey, but that was expected as it was not easy to find a new replacement, security is n/a as it's a latch, happy customer.

Exactly what I was looking for.

SAFE was the only place I could find stocking this door latch. Modern internal door latches are rather smaller and differently shaped so would not fit the void left by the one I was replacing. The stark alternatives would have been some chiselling and filling which is never very satisfactory or else a new door which is even worse ( ! ) Also the quality seems fully as good as the original which is easily over thirty or forty years old. Full marks for still stocking something that must have only a minority demand these days. THAT is good customer service!

Having searched locally for a replacement Flat pattern latch with no luck I found Safe on the internet. Not only did they have the very latch that i required urgently but it was offered at a very competitive price. The ordering procedure was very simple and to my delight the delivery service was as promised, arriving on time and adequately packed. If you are in the market for hardware of this kind I would not hesitate to recommend SAFE.

The Legge 3709LK - Flat Pattern Latch is a traditional design and generally far more robust than the more common round latches that are often used. The build quality is excellent as is the strength of the spring within the latch, the latter certainly helps with handles or knobs which aren’t adequately sprung. Fitting can take slightly longer because of the requirement for a rectangular mortise, but this is offset by the quality of the product and its life expectancy. With this in mind I would have no hesitation in recommending this product.

Strong and well made

Difficult to say. Quality looks good but for me and the latch I was trying to replace it is 2or 3 ml too big. The old latch has been there for c. 30 years and I guess metrification has just changed the size a smidgeon. So I manged to fit it without redrilling but it's difficult to turn. More precise measurements on your site would have helped but I guess there's no way round it.

This product saved our bacon! We have been refurbishing our house and stripped the 1960's doors back to the original wood finish. They had been fitted with roller ball latches which had to be scrapped as they kept getting stuck :( Flat pattern latches in every single door means we can live safely without being stuck in our rooms!! These latches were not in stock at the time of placing my order - There was to be a possible 3 week wait - However, a delivery to Safe must have arrived earlier than expected, as the latches were delivered to me in approximately 10 days - Very pleased with these latches - The quality of them are second to none - I found them to be much more expensive on other sites I investigated - I needed to change 2 latches on doors some 50 years old - The latches were easy to fit, look great and work perfectly - Thank you Safe!

Product exactly what I eventually ordered. Excellent service after I had previously ordered what I wanted and not what I needed during lock down but they were still accepting orders. Credit performed promptly after they received the original order which I couldn't send back until I could go out to the post office.

It was as good as any latch of that type that you can get at most hardware store but it was cheaper.

I was surprised and super-pleased to find a replacement latch for a 50 year old door. The size I ordered was not an exact match for the original but I was able to make some minor alterations to the door to make it fit. If I had called out a locksmith the job might have cost £80 more.

The Legge company has been around for ever and most people will have seen their locks and latches about and know they are of good quality.

So I had no hesitation in ordering some of their latches which as expected turned out to be of Good quality easy to fit and in sizes that fit old and modern doors alike.

The product was ideal; my doors are original doors from when the house was built in the 1920's, so when the original lock broke I was at a loss how to replace it. I located a similar product on another website first, but after checking the measurements that one was not suitable. I checked local hardware stores, which are scarce in this current age, but to no avail. Fortunately I found your website after trying old brand names, eg, Legge ,and I was pleased to find your product still used the original sizes, whereas other , newer, products are slightly thicker or longer requiring cutting the door , which in my case is slim but solid wood , so widening the aperture is not good for the door's strength. When other locks wear out I know now where I can get replacements. Well done !
