I shortlisted 3 safes in the end. Chubb , phoenix & burton . I chose this safe for a couple of reasons. Firstly the Chubb name . “ if Chubb can protect the Crown Jewels. They can most definitely protect mine .” The 2nd reason was other reviews on here & online. Lastly was shape , size , price.

I also had a discount code from my insurance company to use. So cost was also a benefactor. I bought the safe through safe.co.uk because of their ease of installation service and reviews.

I did a lot of research into buying a safe, and I was amazed at the amount of safes that are out there.

There were so many different types, and from different countries. I decided that I wanted a British made one as we should be all helping our own businesses.

I looked at the small ones, but for what I needed it for they were a to small. Then I found the chubsafes home 10k, this I found to be perfect for my needs. Small enough to be hidden but with the capacity to hold an enormous amount.

The only slight negative I would have is I didn't get dual opening. In saying that it is an amazing safe, would definitely recommend it.

A caveat - I know nothing about safes. However, I am an aerospace engineer, so generally know what I'm looking at. All I can say is that I'm placing a lot of faith in the test certificate because on the face of it, the build quality is poor. I have a filing cabinet made of thicker steel. Any appearance of solidity and heft comes from an intermediate material sat between the thin inner and outer steel walls. When locked the door still has 4 or 5mm of play as the fit between the v-bolt and recess is poor and is masked only by a piece of folded spring steel designed to give the illusion of a good fit. I'm sure it will do the job, but next time I'll buy a safe in person and choose something that seems better made. I can't help but feel that Chubb are trading on their name
