I am wanting to purchase a safe for my home and was wondering if it had to be bolted to the wall or floor before it worked? In other words can I just leave it in situ without bolting it down.
Anonymous
We will always recommend that a safe is bolted to a floor or wall where possible as this increases security. The safe will function exactly the same if left free standing and can be used as such, but the potential for it to be removed is obviously increased. It may also affect your insurance cover if not bolted to a solid surface.

I would like to install a home safe into a cupboard but the sizes only allow me to rotate the safe 90deg so it would stand on its end - would this hinder any performance of the safe or create any access issues with the door?
Paul, Birmingham
The safe is designed to be used whilst positioned on its base with the door opening out. Though the unit may function perfectly well in a different position it will not have been tested for use in this manner so future issues accessing the safe cannot be entirely ruled out.

Can this safe be fitted to the floor of a freestanding wardrobe?
Mrs Newbury
Ideally you should not attach the safe to anything that is freestanding, it is recommended to base or wall fix it to concrete or brick. If you have no option other than the cupboard it is certainly better then nothing.

When setting the lock code for the first time do you need to press the key sign first? The pictorial instructions don't make it clear other than enter a code enter. The safe I purchased is product code YL-YSV/250/D81.
Ray Mitchell, Taunton
To set your own code you will first press the Programme button on the inside of the safe, the numbers you wish to set and then the ENTER key to Confirm/Set the code (Audible melody). Once a code is set you will enter your numbers followed by the KEY symbol button to unlock. You can view the full user guide here.

Hi, I wanted to buy the Yale Value Safe Home Ref: YL-YSV/250/DB1 but wanted to double check that it was ok to keep outside? It will be under cover and sheltered however may be exposed to some weather?
Anonymous, St Andrews
We would advise against storing this safe outside, even under shelter because of the electronics. The only products we would advise for outdoor use are Outdoor Key Safes.

On the Yale Value Safe, where is the key hole for the back-up lock out key? And is it in the same place on the smaller laptop version? I want to be sure that, where I have in mind to fit it, the hole will still be reachable if needed. Many thanks.
Anonymous
The key hole is hidden behind the yellow Yale logo on the front of the door. The logo slides upwards to reveal the key hole and this applies to all sizes in the Yale Value Series.

If you take a look at the close up images above you will see one showing the logo has moved and the back-up key has been inserted.

How do you reset the password digits?
Steve, Windsor
To reset the code, the safe door needs to be in a open position. There is a reset button on the back of the door, once pressed you will hear two beeps which will allow you to enter your new code followed by the key button. Further details can be found in the Yale Value Safe user guide.

Is it possible for the safe to be left hinged?
Anonymous
Unfortunately not, most safes that are manufactured come off the production line moulded by one singular template. However a left handed customisation could be done on a higher graded safe depending on the manufacturer.

Hi, I am interested in the YL-YLV/200/DB1 however I cannot see that it is insurance rated. Is it?
Keith, Braintree
The Value series by Yale are built for securing low value household items. They do not advertise an insurance rating on this range. If you are interested in a Yale safe, with an insurance rating, why not take a look at the Yale Certified Safes Series.
