I have purchased a Yale safe and the battery is low on the pin so it mean the safe is not opening. I cannot find the key. How do I go about getting a new key? Is there a way I can give you the number of the type of safe it is?
Ashanti , London
Additional keys can be purchased from the Yale store.
With the door open and unlocked press the red programme button located on the edge of the battery compartment (Audible Beep). Now enter your desired code onto the keypad followed by the ENTER button to confirm (Melody Confirmation). The code entered should now be usable as your personal access code. For a copy of the instructions there is also a User Guide available for you to download from the website. For further assistance please contact our sales office on the number at the top of this page.
How long could a set of batteries be expected to last? Is there any warning of low battery?
Emma
Good quality AA batteries should last between 12 and 18 months. When the batteries are running low a red light will appear on the keypad when entering your code.
This Safe does not come with a factory default pin. In order to gain access to the safe without a pin code you would need the to use the back up key provided.
I am wanting to purchase a safe for my home and was wondering if it had to be bolted to the wall or floor before it worked? In other words can I just leave it in situ without bolting it down.
Anonymous
We will always recommend that a safe is bolted to a floor or wall where possible as this increases security. The safe will function exactly the same if left free standing and can be used as such, but the potential for it to be removed is obviously increased. It may also affect your insurance cover if not bolted to a solid surface.
On the Yale Value Safe, where is the key hole for the back-up lock out key? And is it in the same place on the smaller laptop version? I want to be sure that, where I have in mind to fit it, the hole will still be reachable if needed. Many thanks.
Anonymous
The key hole is hidden behind the yellow Yale logo on the front of the door. The logo slides upwards to reveal the key hole and this applies to all sizes in the Yale Value Series.
If you take a look at the close up images above you will see one showing the logo has moved and the back-up key has been inserted.
Can this safe be fitted to the floor of a freestanding wardrobe?
Mrs Newbury
Ideally you should not attach the safe to anything that is freestanding, it is recommended to base or wall fix it to concrete or brick. If you have no option other than the cupboard it is certainly better then nothing.
I am renting a room and wish to lock away my 2 x cameras.
is there a metal cord I could fit into one of the holes to secure this to my bed frame? I hope this makes sense.
Steve, South Woodford
Unfortunately this safe does not have a tether cable. However I can recommend the Master Lock Portable Safe P008 which include one.
Hi, I want to order one of your Yale Ref: YL-YLV/200/DB1 but need to be sure my laptop will fit. Actual width closed is 15" and 10" deep. So will the width go past the lock on the back of the door? Regards Peter
Peter
You should have no problem inserting your 15" laptop in this safe. If you have a look at the video above you will see the lock mechanism will miss your laptop when it is laid on the base of the safe.
Unfortunately not, most safes that are manufactured come off the production line moulded by one singular template. However a left handed customisation could be done on a higher graded safe depending on the manufacturer.
Is it possible to fix this safe to an exterior wall, through the side wall of the safe ?
Anonymous
This safe can be installed to an exterior wall, however this can only be done through the rear of the safe. There are no pre-drilled holes in the side walls of any of the safes only in the base and the rear.
To reset the code, the safe door needs to be in a open position. There is a reset button on the back of the door, once pressed you will hear two beeps which will allow you to enter your new code followed by the key button. Further details can be found in the Yale Value Safe user guide.
Noting that the lock is powered by 4 x AA batteries, what happens if the batteries go flat? Can new batteries be installed without getting into the safe?
Ian Stuart, Reading
If the batteries go flat you are supplied with 2 override keys to open the safe manually.
Hi, I am interested in the YL-YLV/200/DB1 however I cannot see that it is insurance rated. Is it?
Keith, Braintree
The Value series by Yale are built for securing low value household items. They do not advertise an insurance rating on this range. If you are interested in a Yale safe, with an insurance rating, why not take a look at the Yale Certified Safes Series.
I am looking at this laptop safe which on your website says is suitable for storing a 15.5" laptop. Having made some enquiries online, I notice that some comments have suggested that the opening width of 370mm is too tight and having measured my Sony Vaio 15.5" the width is 378mm. Will my laptop fit?
Sharon
Unfortunately the Yale Value Laptop safe is only suitable for laptops with a maximum screen size of 15". For larger screen sizes you might want to consider the Safewell 20HG Hotel Safe.
Is the safe fire resistant at all as needed for holding documents eg house deeds?
DE
This safe is designed for the storage of small amounts of cash or valuables only, it does not offer any fire protection. We do offer a range of Fire Safes on the website which may be more suitable should you wish to consider these.
