If installed or powered incorrectly by a faulty or low voltage outlet, you run the risk of the security light not functioning as intended. Battery-powered security lights are typically motion detection lights without CCTV functionality due to their lower power consumption. Although, security lights with CCTV integration are available.

Ensure the security light doesn’t point directly at other houses, buildings or windows to avoid disturbing the occupants. Also, consider the direction of the camera when placed near front doors to accommodate for passing traffic and pedestrians. If your security light is deemed to cause a nuisance, you could be taken to court and ordered to remove or adjust the security light.

Connecting your outdoor security lights to your home security system or alarm system depends on what make and model you use for each. Most security lights with CCTV functionality come equipped with a desktop or smartphone app that can send you notifications when movement is detected. There are also plenty of options for outdoor security lights with built-in alarms that can be operated both manually and through motion detection.
