Unless one is fortunate enough to have a 'walk in' facility most of us will need to store our ammunition in a secure place, as per our security arrangements.

The potential problem is when one expands their 'collection' the amount of ammunition also grows. I've had a large ammuntion cabinet but decided to split the ammunition into seperate cabinets for ease of access which also gives me sight of my remaining rounds. This is my third Buffalo River Ammo Safe and although it is slightly different in design to my previous safes it operates in exactly the same way. For someone just starting out on their shooting career it is a relitively inexpensive safe but the quality is first class.

This safe was just what I wanted for my ammo, I am so pleased with it I am considering buying another one exactly the same for my other ammo.

then it saves me opening the gun cabinet and then the lockable storage internal cabinet to get to my ammo. It makes it easier because I make my own ammo and having the extra safe makes it so much easier. I think it is brilliant.

I was surprised at the cost when I was sorting which safe to get, and I really do think this is value for the money, I highly recommend this safe, and it was shipped quickly no long waiting times.

The Buffalo River Electronic Lock Ammo Safe is designed to secure ammo. Constructed from sheet steel with a 2mm body and 3mm thick door and secured by a battery powered electronic combination lock. The Electronic Lock Ammo Safe has a carpet lined base and all Buffalo River safes are designed to exceed BS7558 for Police approval.

The safe appears solid enough and does give me exactly what I was looking for when I searched for a suitable product. It was easy to install and operate although the key function in the event the batteries fail on the electronic lock is a bit fiddly. Value for money wise I thought it was reasonably priced compared to similar makes and models. The door could be a little thicker if I had a particular comment on what could be improved. Storage wise as an ammo safe it is adequate for my immediate needs. I would probably look at the same make if I was looking for another one or something larger.

Already owning a Buffalo River gun safe, this was an obvious choice. I also wanted an ammo safe which took up the same width (which I acheived by turning this on it's side). A great product as always from BR, however I scored the build quality down slightly because the back of the safe was rounded and not flat, which made installation a bit of a nightmare in a tight space trying to get the nuts onto the bolts as they protrude into the unit through the holes. Everything else about the safe was as good as I expect from Buffalo River and the structure is reassuringly solid.

Ease of use is a problem. I am fitting it to a secure steel cord in the back of the vehicle. For the end loops on the cord I need 40 mm holes in rear, So I am having to drill the holes to take M24 fittings that are big enough to get the steel cord loops through.

How Do I open the safe with the keys? I have just received the safe and cannot open it to put the batteries in.

To open this safe with the keys you need to remove the plastic facia that conceals the lock barrel. This is located below the handle on the keypad.

Standard Safe <25kg Installation

We offer professional installation on our complete range of lightweight safes under 25kgs.

Our experienced engineer will complete a brief site inspection and then discuss their findings with you to agree positioning of your safe.

Your installation will include bolting the safe to the floor or wall using the anchor bolts included with your safe. Anchor bolts are designed for use with a solid surface such as brick or concrete. We cannot install your safe to floorboards or a stud plasterboard wall.

If you are choosing a wall installation you must ensure the skirting board has been removed prior to installation.

The position of your safe will be governed by safe site access, and other obstructions such as submerged pipes/cables or under floor heating.

The engineer will carry out a final assessment to ensure the safe is secure before providing a brief demonstration of your safe and confirming the installation has been completed to your satisfaction.

Additional Information

Non-standard Installation

In some cases, it may be necessary to install additional materials or provide extra resources (manpower) to facilitate an installation in a safe manner.

If additional costs are likely these will be discussed with you prior to installation. Reasons for extra costs might include:

  • Specialised access equipment and permits such as hoists, lifts and cranes.
  • Outside of normal hours working (Mon-Fri, 9am to 5pm).
  • 4x4 Vehicular access requirements to remote rural sites.
  • Road closure including necessary permits.
  • Additional manpower to overcome technical, lifting or safety access issues.

We offer installation throughout the UK mainland, however some more remote and rural post codes in the Highlands are subject to a surcharge to cover additional fuel and traveling time costs.

The following areas will incur a rural travel surcharge:

These additional elements are deemed to fall outside the definition of a 'Standard Installation'. If you feel your installation might be non-standard please contact us to discuss your individual requirements.

If applicable, additional costs are to be paid before installation begins.

Warranty Terms & Conditions

Our installer provides a standard 12 month warranty on all new installations and a 3 month warranty on all materials provided during maintenance visits.

Note: Existing system components and pre-supplied equipment are not included in the installation warranty as these elements are covered by the Manufacturer warranty.

We reserve the right to undertake an ‘Assessment Call’ without prejudice to investigate any complaints relating to materials failure or poor workmanship to assess if the complaint is valid. Please note that remedial service calls generated by elements outside of our sphere of influence or due to different fault conditions will be chargeable to you at an agreed call out charge.

In scenarios where you request a post installation service call and our assessment identifies the fault condition or cause of the fault falls outside of the limitations of the standard installation warranty (Force Majeure, different fault etc) a call out charge will be incurred for the visit.

Assessment calls raised for reasons outside our sphere of influence or responsibility and not covered by the standard installation will incur a call out charge for labour and additional materials.

The following are examples of when a call out charge would be incurred:

  • Malicious Damage
  • Materials or Manufacturer Failure
  • System Modification
  • Incorrect User Diagnosis
