Details
The Yale Smart Home Alarm Starter Kit SR-310 is a fully featured wireless burglar alarm system designed for a small home or garden office with a broadband internet connection*. The SR-310 Starter Kit includes 3 components, but can be expanded to include up to 20 components allowing you to tailor the system to your home. Take a look at what's in the box and the wide range of accessories you can add here.

Part of Yale's exciting Smart Living series of products, designed to make life easier and safer, the intuitive wireless Smart Home system allows you complete control of your alarm from your Smartphone.

The system is armed or disarmed using the included Keypad or via the Yale Smart Home Alarm App (available for iOS and Android) and includes a pre-set 20 second entry/exit period. When the alarm is triggered a loud internal (94dB) siren will sound to alert others of an intruder and the system will alert you via email and text message.

The Smart Home Alarm Starter Kit SR-310 is easy to fit - no wiring or running cables in walls or under the carpet and you won't need the services of a qualified electrician. The wireless alarm components are pre-linked and have a wide 30 metre wireless range using the highly reliable 868MHz frequency, ensuring you can place them practically anywhere.

In the box

Smart Hub1 x Smart Hub
The Smart Hub with 94dB internal siren is the heart of the alarm system and is connected by an Ethernet cable (included) to your broadband router. Once connected to your router the hub connects via wi-fi to each device on your alarm system.

PIR Motion Detector1 x PIR Motion Detector
The detectors should be placed in the corner of rooms that are vulnerable to intruders. When the alarm is armed an infrared sensor will detect any movement and activate the loud internal siren.

Keypad Control Panel1 x Keypad Control Panel
In addition to SmartPhone control the keypad can also be used to arm or disarm the alarm system via entry of your own unique PIN code. The keypad can be fixed to a wall or carried around your home.

Features

Pre-linked components
All the wireless components are linked together straight out of the box. There is no technical knowledge or wiring required to install a Yale Smart Home alarm.

Alarm notification by SmartPhone
The alarm system will notify you by email and text if the alarm is triggered.

Alarm control by SmartPhone
You can access all of the alarm settings and features via the Yale Smart Home Alarm App (available for iOS and Android). The system can be activated and deactivated using your SmartPhone and when used in conjunction with the PIR Camera or PIR Video Camera, images or video footage captured by the cameras can be viewed on the app.

Smartphone App
Image & Video Capture
While the alarm is armed the optional PIR Camera or optional PIR Video Camera will capture still images or video footage when either PIR detects movement. The images or video can then be viewed on your SmartPhone using the Yale Smart Home Alarm App.

Part arming by zone
The alarm can be set to create two different zones allowing you to arm one or both zones. This can be especially useful if you decide to split the upstairs and downstairs of a property into two zones. While away from the property you would activate both zones and during the night you could activate only the downstairs zone.

Advanced technology 868 MHz wireless
Yale Smart Home alarms are designed to operate on on a frequency of 868MHz which uses a short duty cycle of only 1%. This means that any single device can only transmit for 1% of the time, leaving the channel free 99% of the time. When multiple devices are operating on the same system this technology ensures a more stable connection and little chance of interference. Many DIY alarm systems use a less regulated higher duty cycle reducing performance.

Rolling Code Technology
A remote control device transmits a unique code to the control panel in most DIY systems. This unique code is used by the system to determine that the correct remote control is attempting to contact the control panel - for example not your neighbour's remote control. The problem with the unique code is that it might be possible to intercept it and as a result make a clone enabling someone else to activate the system. Rolling Code technology ensures this cannot happen by changing the unique code every time it is sent to the control panel, meaning if the code is intercepted it will not work again as it can only be used once - adding a further level of security.

* Requirements: This alarm system requires a broadband internet connection with a router that includes one free wired network port. SmartPhone must be iOS 9.0 and above or Android 4.2 and above.

Animal PIR's are pretty useless (i bought them as extra) although i haven't altered the sensitivity setting yet. But the main smart home kit is good and easy to use. Could use an external siren though.

I found this unit easy to install and subsequently found it very easy to add extra sensors and key fobs. It definitely detects people OK and I've had no false alarms. I'm very pleased with it. The new Android app looks nicer than the old one but it is a downgrade with respect to features: no notification sound and no indicator 'light' to tell you that a door/window is open. I find that a little annoying but on the plus side I've never noticed any loss of service - it has always found my alarm. I wish it had RFID key fobs rather that the seemingly fragile (and relatively large) battery-powered things. Note that (of course) app control and app notifications will be disabled if there's a power outage that takes out the internet connection. A land-line back-up would make it more resistant to this type of attack. I gave 'security' 4 stars for this reason.

» Ask Question

System sounds great but concerned about reading about systems being hacked (after resetting default passwords) and wireless jamming devices?
Paul, Shefford
The Yale Smart Alarms work on a very secure rolling code frequency of 868MHZ which offers a more stable connection and helps prevent anti jamming devices.

Can the door contacts be used on patio doors?
Gary Westwood, Pensnett
Yes, they can be used on most patio doors (this does depend on the door itself) please make sure that once the Door Contact is fitted there is no more than a 10mm gap between the contact and sensor.

I've read through the Q&As here but am still unsure whether the internal siren's sound can be disabled, as in one answer your expert says the hub can be set to chime when a sensor is triggered, but elsewhere you state the siren can be set to low but not muted entirely.
My office is situated in a multi-business building which doesn't allow sirens to be used and so I need a system that will alert me of intrusion via the smart app only.
Andy Ebsworth, Slough
The sound such as entry/exit time delay can be muted however there is no actual way to silence the internal 94dB siren once it has been triggered, unfortunately all our alarm systems have this feature.

Can I add an external sounder/siren box to this. If so, does it need to be a specific one?
Vicki, Glasgow
External Siren boxes can not be added or purchased for this alarm system as an additional accessory. We do offer other systems such as the Yale Smart Home Alarm Kit - SR-320 that include an External Siren should you wish to consider this.

My iphone 4 is only 7.5 ios. My Samsung Galaxy Tablet is Android 5.1 lollipop. Can I use this alarm on my Tablet which is paired with my phone and set up to receive emails? Or does the app need to be on my iphone? Would I receive the emails if my phone isn't 9 ios? Why does the starter kit have no door sensor?
Ann, Aberdeen
The phone or tablet used in conjunction with this alarm must be iOS 9.0 or above or Android 4.2 or above. Alarm notifications will be sent via push message to these devices. This alarm is supplied with the fundamental components for an alarm system. Additional sensors can be added as required or we do offer other systems such as the Yale Easy Fit Standard Alarm that are supplied with door contact sensors as standard.

Can I add an external siren box to this alarm? (Not a dummy box). Is 94db loud enough for a garden office installation?
Graeme, London
External sirens are not available as an accessory. You should consider the next model in the series, the Yale Smart Home Alarm Kit - SR-320, which includes both an internal and external siren (104db) as standard.

How do you pair the Yale power plug with the Yale SR-310 alarm kit?
Steve, Wickford
Press and hold the learn button on your Smart Hub. You will hear a beep, after 6 seconds you will hear a slightly longer beep indicating the hub is in learn mode. Press and hold the learn button on the power switch for 10 seconds. The Smart Hub will then beep to confirm registration of the component.

Standard Alarm Installation

We offer professional installation on our complete range of wireless alarm kits, for the home or business.

Our experienced engineer will complete a brief site inspection and then discuss their findings with you to agree equipment positioning before commencing the installation of your Alarm Kit, including hub, all components (including selected components purchased from Safe.co.uk) and the wireless external siren.

Your installation will include positioning motion sensors in areas to provide the most suitable sensor coverage and locating the external siren in a highly visible location. Final positions will be governed by safe site access and the effect of the building on wireless range, including wall thickness, building materials and location of your Wi-Fi equipment.

You must ensure that adequate power is available for the alarm hub (one power socket) and that easy access is available to your broadband router as this will need to be connected to your alarm hub using an ethernet cable. If your router is not close to where you intend to position the alarm hub we advise purchasing a powerline adaptor prior to install.

The engineer will set up remote monitoring on one device and then carry out a final assessment to confirm that your new system is fully operational before providing a brief demonstration of your system and confirming it has been completed to your satisfaction.

Non-standard Alarm Installation

In some cases, it may be necessary to install additional materials or provide extra resources (manpower) to facilitate an installation in a safe manner.

If additional costs are likely these will be discussed with you prior to installation. Reasons for extra costs might include:

  • Large commercial buildings such as warehouses and office blocks.
  • Additional alarm devices not supplied by Safe.co.uk.
  • Specialised access equipment and permits such as hoists, lifts and cranes.
  • Outside of normal hours working (Mon-Fri, 9am to 5pm).
  • 4x4 Vehicular access requirements to remote rural sites.
  • Road closure including necessary permits.
  • Additional manpower to overcome technical, lifting or safety access issues.

We offer installation throughout the UK mainland, however some more remote and rural post codes in the Highlands are subject to a surcharge to cover additional fuel and traveling time costs.

The following areas will incur a rural travel surcharge:

£55.00 Surcharge Areas

  • PH 1 - 26 (No coverage in other PH postcodes)
  • PA 1 - 19 (No coverage in other PA postcodes)

If applicable, additional costs are to be paid before installation begins.

Warranty Terms & Conditions

Our installer provides a standard 12 month warranty on all new installations and a 3 month warranty on all materials provided during maintenance visits.

Note: Existing system components and pre-supplied equipment are not included in the installation warranty as these elements are covered by the Manufacturer warranty.

We reserve the right to undertake an ‘Assessment Call’ without prejudice to investigate any complaints relating to materials failure or poor workmanship to assess if the complaint is valid. Please note that remedial service calls generated by elements outside of our sphere of influence or due to different fault conditions will be chargeable to you at an agreed call out charge.

In scenarios where you request a post installation service call and our assessment identifies the fault condition or cause of the fault falls outside of the limitations of the standard installation warranty (Force Majeure, different fault etc) a call out charge will be incurred for the visit.

Assessment calls raised for reasons outside our sphere of influence or responsibility and not covered by the standard installation will incur a call out charge for labour and additional materials.

The following are examples of when a call out charge would be incurred:

  • Accidental Damage
The Alarm system is knocked off alignment by high winds or moving objects such as ladders, footballs or people.
  • Malicious Damage
The Alarm system has been physically damaged by vandals or DIY.
  • Materials Failure
Previously Installed equipment (existing) or equipment included in the pre-purchased kit are deemed to be at fault. Faulty equipment such as the alarm hub, sensors, and power supply units are covered by the manufacturer warranty.
  • System Modification
A request that the installed system be modified such as sensors or the external siren be repositioned post installation.
  • Incorrect Diagnosis
The customers web portal, broadband connectivity or Mobile App are identified as being at fault or incorrectly operated by the user when trying to access the system. This includes user error and any form of software / firmware upgrades post installation.
