ABUS Super Code 158/50 Long 57mm Shackle Combination Padlock

Extremely well built but I find it takes time to move the wheels into their correct code position as they don’t tend to revolve freely and more than one can move together.

It is a shame that that the numbers can’t be always held in place whilst revolving the other wheels as the lock is on a main gate and in adverse weather conditions I can get unduly wet. That is the only downside to an otherwise excellently constructed lock.

This is by far the best padlock I've ever used. After trying several over the last few years, I ended up buying a full set of these for the entire Estate I manage. Extremely well-built, user-friendly design, and decent security. In particular, the long shackle and vertical number wheel layout make operation particularly easy, even one-handed whilst carrying stuff, for example. The only slight issue in my case is that anyone who knows the code you've set (ie: all users) can then re-set that code! This is fine if you trust everyone or are the sole user but, on a large Estate with many users, it would be nice to have a specific key just to re-set the code, which I could then control. (On the other hand, I suppose the flipside is that I might lose the key and would have to remember to have it with me when I wanted to change the codes. So there are pros and cons!) But that's the only thing that is a slight potential downside - otherwise, it's a great padlock.

For me it is the ease of use. It is very hard to read in outdoor low light conditions. I specifically got a outside one for outdoor use. When selecting the numbers it turns two at a time. So visibly poor numbers in poor lighting and turning two at a time makes it a pretty disastrous outdoor product in my opinion. You need two hands to operate due to holding one row still whilst moving another, and they are not easy to turn. If you put a torch in your mouth I suppose you could get by but trying to stick my phone in my mouth was just too big a ask. Build quality is good it is very sturdy, good price, does what it should just these few minor annoyances that for me makes it unsuitable for my needs.

Great product, well designed, strong and easy to use. The colour is good and the product feels robust and weather resistant. In particular we needed a lock with a long shackle. This was required to interconnect an eye bolt set in pre-cast concrete and a garden access gate, made of wrought iron. We tried many suppliers from the regular suppliers to specialist on line iron mongers. After several attempts we could not find any large chain suppliers who had the right product. I was pleased to come across “Safe” who supply specialists lock and had this particular lock with a specially long shackle. Great product and prompt delivery. Very pleased.
