I brought is ERA 183 - Auto Deadlocking Night Latch to replace my old 5 pin barrel Chubb auto deadlock night latch. It is a direct replacement only had to drill two new holes in the wooden frame to fit. The ERA lock has 6 pins in the barrel so it is far more secure. It was very easy to fit and came with all the screws, finish is very good and feels very sturdy also used the spare key cutting service. All keys fit nicely and was value for money. I would recommend this lock and key cutting service to any one.

  • Lock is 40mm backset from forend.
  • Also available with a 60mm Backset.
  • The latchbolt is withdrawn by the handle from the inside and by the key from the outside.
  • The latchbolt can be deadlocked by the key from the outside or snib button from the inside.
  • The latchbolt automatically deadlocks when the door is closed.
  • The latchbolt can be held in the withdrawn position by rotating the handle and pressing the the snib button.

I have an ERA Nightlatch that I am wanting to replace. As I understand, you can't replace the barrel. Is this true? How can I tell which model I have, as the one I thought it was some of the dimensions aren't the same as the ones given on the website? The one I have, the case height is slightly less than the dimensions given. Thank you

In most cases it is possible to just replace the cylinder lock for the Nightlatch making it cheaper to replace when a lock becomes faulty over time. Most Cylinders to suit a Nightlatch are standard sizes and will be compatible regardless of the case size. If in doubt, we could recommend a replacement by seeing a photo if you have the facility to send one.
