ERA 1830 - Auto Deadlocking Nightlatch (40mm, Brass)

This is the second of these locks I have purchased from Safe. I wanted to check the BS no. as various sites gave various numbers. safe responded to my enquiry very quickly after referring to the manufacture for accurate information. They also updated their website. The service is really excellent and although the lock cost a bit more you just know that if there is any problem it will be immediately rectified.

I ordered a 40mm as this was to go on a glass panelled door. I had to very slightly enlarge the original hole on one side using a wood file but fitting was straightforward. Read and re read the instruction relating to cutting the silver bar that protrudes from the lock itself to ensure you do not cut it too short. You will almost certainly need a sharp chisel to enlarge the rebate if you are replacing an old nightlatch but any anyone with a basic DIY kit should be able to fit this lock. If fitting to a new door, they provide a paper template which you fold and hold up to the door to mark out the position of the holes. Make sure you uses the correct size as you will find a template for a 40 mm and a 60 mm lock. Other than than a cou[ple of screwdrivers, you will need a junior hacksaw or maybe a Dremmel type kit to cut the bar and also possibly the bolts.

You can use the key to lock the handle from the inside for example overnight and also do the same before you go out. This means that if a potential intruder breaks the glass in the door, they will be unable to open it. Bear in mind that if you lock the handle overnight, or at any other time, you will not be able to get out without the key. The key will open the lock normally from the outside. The button can be used to hold the latch open only.

I have purchased and fitted two of these locks and would happily do the same again should the need arise.
