Yale PM552 - 5 Lever Deadlock (64mm, Polished Brass)

This lock was purchased to replace a Chubb lock fitted to the door previously. While the actual lock mechanism appeared on the diagrams to be the same size and thus would make an easy replacement, the actual work involved was considerable and tricky. The mechanism was the same depth as the Chubb so the keyhole would line up correctly but it was higher and required the hole in the door to be enlarged significantly by careful chiseling. The most difficult part was, however, fitting the much longer face plates. As the lock is fitted to the door below an existing Yale lock, as a second lock, and the Chubb had been fitted fairly close to the Yale, the much longer face plates were a problem. Both the one on the face of the lock and on the receiving plate has to be sawn shorter and redrilled before the lock could be fitted. After all of that, it was good to have a smoothly operating lock again as the Chubb was over 25 years old and frequently threatening to seize.
